Top 10 plays of the year

Friday, December 9th, 2005

The Buchtelite published its top sports moments from this fall. It has been one heckuva season, so the list is quite robust. Mike Hixenbaugh and Kiel Fleming compiled 10 moments, then I ranked them one to 10.

Women's basketball

Speaking of Fleming, he made a prediction to me that I found awfully morbid, but still worth posting. He says the women's basketball team (1-5) will have 500 turnovers this season. They will play 27 or 28 games, so they'll need to average just fewer than 20 screw-ups a game to satisfy Fleming.

After six games, the Zips are 16 ahead of the pace for 500 turnovers, giving the ball away a total of 136 times. Stay tuned.

Diving

It has come to my attention that diver and Stow-Munroe Falls High School graduate Jen Harris underwent successful surgery on her hand Friday to repair broken fingers. She busted open her hand on the board during a dive. Best of luck to Jen as she recovers.

By the way, the diving team is now 1-2 after beating Buffalo Saturday. Akron won 12 of the 16 events, including all of the diving events.
