Akron hasn't beaten D-1A team in 365 days

Happy anniversary.

It was one year ago today when Akron last triumphed over a fellow Division I-A team. The Zips beat Toledo 47-30 at the Rubber Bowl on Nov. 5, 2008.

So we have gone an entire year without Akron achieving anything meaningful.

Just like Lloyd Christmas' swap of a dogmobile for a moped, however, Akron has a chance to "totally redeem" itself on Saturday against Kent State. In my opinion, a win over the archrival is worth five over the directional Michigans of the world.

The stakes are not so high for the Zips, whose season has slumped over thanks to a six-game losing streak. For Kent State, though, this game is big. So big, in fact, that coach Doug Martin is downplaying the rivalry aspect, hoping not to divert his team. After three straight conference wins, the Flashes sit in second place in the MAC East, with the ultra-important ability to control their own destiny.

What better anniversary gift could J.D. Brookhart and the Zips present to fans than a soul-crushing upset against the hated rival? None, I say.

Just as Steve French said on Sportstalk… the writing is on the wall and J.D knows it! A win over Kent will make my day anytime!!

The Zips have to put aside all the problems from this year and bring everything they got this Saturday!! That goes for the fans too…come on Zips fans don't go out with a fizzle, let's keep the Wagon Wheel where it belongs!!!!

looking forward to saturday !

BRING IT AKRON — it's Kent

Come on JD make it 3 in a row — it's all about pride!

Boy is it sad when you have to hope to beat Kent at home. Pull out the M16…let firing begin, don't stop till you hit the water boy.

Pretty sure the above post should be deleted. Anyways…I'm still looking forward to the game. I guess we get to be 'spoiler' this year. GO ZIPS!!!!

After whats happened a win tomorrow would help. BUT,my fear is that Kent might reverse the outcome of the 2005 Blizzard Bowl game. If Kent gets going early it will be a rout. Only chance Akron has is to hope they can run and keep running with no turnovers. If there is going to be a win the defense will have to do it.

Sorry folks. What I would do is go completely out of character on offense. Set up in th I with Tuzze as the lead back like a few years ago. Put Nicely under center and try to find one of those backs who might get hot for ONE game. I gotta believe Alex Allen might have one left.

This is our bowl game! I can care less if we lose every other game this season.

this season has no where else to go but UP!

so let's get it started tomorrow

What a great game to be the "SPOILER" and bring your rival's season down

GO ZIPS!

A win against Kent would be great, in fact a miracle. If we get beat, JD should be fired after the game. If we win, then fire him at the end of the season. Either way get him out of the here. He is a joke and making the football program a joke. Go Zips soccer!!!!!!
