Eastman and Beaudine is the search firm, and Candace Campbell Jackson will head an 18-person committee to find Akron's next athletic director.

For its effort, the Texas-based search firm will receive 25 percent of the position's first-year salary. Notable members of the committee include track coach Dennis Mitchell, women's basketball player Kara Murphy, InfoCision's Gary Taylor, and current senior associate athletic director Mary Lu Gribschaw.

The goal is to have the new athletic director in place by Sept. 15.

Listen for recruiting news regarding two local juniors-to-be…

Darius Carter, forward, Akron (Firestone H.S.)
    Offers: Akron and Kent State
    Height: 6-foot-6
    Weight: 192
Notes: In perhaps his best game as a sophomore, he tallied 28 points and 13 rebounds against East. Carter also has interest in Wright State.

Jakarr Sampson, forward, Akron (St. Vincent-St. Mary's H.S.)
    Offers: Dayton
    Height: 6-foot-8
    Weight: 190
Notes: Rivals.com calls him a skilled player who can get to the rim. Scout.com ranks Sampson as the No. 19 power forward in the nation.

    Notes about other scholarship offerees…

Point guard Stevie Taylor lists Akron as one of three schools in which he has "high" interest.

Point guard Trey Burke might be Ohio's best now that he has transitioned from distributor to scorer, Rivals.com says.

I hope rivals is just slacking on the offers list for Jakarr Sampson. If Dayton gave him an offer before we did, then there's an issue! I trust Dambrot, but c'mon! The kid is right down the street.

"former women's basketball player Kara Murphy"

Former? Why former? Why isn't she on the team anymore? I thought she was supposed to be a junior this year.

I am in agreement with Eric! Why on earth haven't we offered Sampson yet?!

Odd that the high profile coaches are not on the stage of people picking the new AD.
