I can't believe my eyes when I look at the results of this poll. What do you people expect the MAC commissioner to do when it comes to basketball? What major problems are there in that sport that it requires so much more attention over football? Lack of at-large bids? Guess what? the number of at-large bids for non-BCS conferences is quickly approaching zero, and there's nothing the MAC can do about it. Have two great teams that both deserve to be in the big dance? Tough. One will have to settle for the NIT. In football, however, there's the little issue of unbalanced divisions, the MAC needing a freaking waiver from the NCAA to hold a championship game because not everybody in the East plays each other, all our bowl games are sponsored by companies about to collapse, weekday games in November killing attendance, and the fact that we're part of the ever-changing BCS contract but never seem to gain anything from it.

I doubt Marshall would do it. If their AD is half as idiotic as their fans, then they'd rather get their ass beat in the CUSA than join that conference. I like it though. I could do without one of the Michigan's though. I we could replace one of them with a southern school then we would have an even split between southern schools and northern schools, which is better for traveling. Heck, even Miami is southern enough, and close to Marshall. I believe Miami will stay in FBS before BOTH of those Michigan schools would.

So if those are the schools that stay...and Marshall buys it...damn, I'd like it.

We'll take Toledo, Buffalo, CMU, WMU, and us (and any other MAC school that doesn't like the current direction) and go bring up Charlotte, steal Western Kentucky and invite Marshall back.

Toledo
Buffalo
Akron
Central Michigan
Western Michigan

We don't have anywhere to go right now. In the future things could change, but independent in football with everything else in a 1-AA MAC could be a choice in front of Akron soon. I know that Toledo, Buffalo, and CMU would stay at the FBS level with Akron.

This is why it's so important for Akron to win as much as we can at the present. Akron HAS to win NOW if they want to stay afloat.

Just clarify, it's obvious we will stay in D-1A. I mean, what conference options?

" If it's not football, then why is the MAC even a FBS league? They could focus on basketball as a 1-AA conference."

I think that's the idea, Zack. It seems a majority of the MAC universities are in favor of going that direction. Which Begs the question; where will Akron go?

Football and it's not even close. If it's not football, then why is the MAC even a FBS league? They could focus on basketball as a 1-AA conference.

Basketball doesn't have the number of problems that football has, such as the Temple situation, the constant jockeying for TV time and bowl opportunities, and having by far the largest number of student athletes. Simply put, there's so much more stuff to worry about with football compared to any other sport that to not have it as your top priority at this level is unacceptable.
