Syracuse calls audible, replaces QB late in week

Syracuse coach Greg Robinson replaced incumbent quarterback Andrew Robinson on Friday.

Enter senior Cameron Dantley, who did not appear destined to take a snap until Robinson's horrid performance at Northwestern.

The son of NBA hall of famer Adrian Dantley, Cameron is a walk-on who earned a scholarship just last year. Last season, he completed 48-of-90 passes for five touchdowns and three interceptions.

What this really means is that Syracuse will rely more heavily on its running game, which finally twitched after last season's coma.

    Other notes…

The local columnist up there took some cheap shots at the Zips. I won't bother mentioning his name or publication.

The ABJ's Tom Gaffney wrote about J.D. Brookhart's relationship with SU's Greg Robinson.

I'm hoping for a surprise appearance by Lively or Bain. If they plan to come back against ball State, it would help to have played a game already.

I'm sure JD's feeling good about the win, but ensuring the firing of his good friend has to be a bit awkward. Oh, well… not his fault at all.

Our D-line desperately needs Lively and Bain out there. Without those two we have a bunch of underclassmen out there. They're gonna be tough one day but right now they're being pushed around.
