Hixon leads Giants in rout of Browns

Posted August 18th, 2008 by mrasor

Football

Former Zip and current New York Giant receiver Domenik Hixon scored three touchdowns on a Monday Night Football exhibition against the Browns.

Hixon started while regulars Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer sat out with nagging injuries.

The past 10 months, Hixon has established himself as a rising star in the NFL. He definitely needed a change in location after the Kevin Everett injury. One of Hixon's three first-quarter touchdowns was a kick return, and that will be his main role in the immediate future.

The Browns' backups did close the lead to 3 after Cleveland trailed 30-3, but it's the starters whose performance really matters in these games.

I think you miss-counted Mike. 2 receiving and 1 kick return = 3 touchdowns for Dominek.

  2. hi Says:

    DOMINIK

Fred, learn to spell. Especially if you are going to be a smart ass on the blog.

  3. Pot Calling the Kettle Says:

    Hi,
You are one to talk. You misspelt "Domenik". Even the web site
    you posted has it right.

btw … pointing out the obvious does not make me or FRED a
smart ass. RASOR probably suffering from sleep depravation
going to law school and all.

  4. wow Says:

"misspelt" is not a word………try misspelled

  5. Fred Says:

    "Hi"-
Pointing out the correct number of touchdowns scored by Domenik Hixon is not being a smart ass; it is giving Domenik the credit he is due. I'm sorry if you're a Browns fan who had a bad night. I'm a Browns fan, too. Not happy that the Browns starters looked MISERABLE. But, very happy that Domenik did so well on national TV (and perhaps solidified a spot on the Giants' roster).

  6. Fred Says:

BTW, I notice Rasor did update the number (from two to three) in his blog, so now my original comment doesn't make sense.

  7. dan. Says:

Man, I yearn for these kind of comments. Did I spell all that correctly?

  8. Rick Says:

Am I wrong, or do I recall Hixon being RELEASED by Denver, then getting signed as a free agent by the Giants.

Obviously all of us UA fans realized the immense talent he has, both as a receiver and returner. This is the type of free agent signing that can "make" or "break" a team….a la Josh Cribbs. Can you even fathom having both Cribbs and Hixon performing their multi-skills for the Browns? Phil Savage missed the boat BIG TIME on this one, and the Super Bowl champs (yeah, Phil, the champions) capitalized on his lack of talent-evaluation.

Maybe it's time Phil paid a bit more attention to the MAC standouts in his own backyard, since they turn out to be absolute game-changers in the NFL, huh?

  9. Hmmm Says:

Wait, so Phil Savage signs 50 percent of the MAC standouts you just mentioned (i.e. Cribbs), and you attack him for not paying attention to MAC athletes? This, the same Phil Savage who drafted Charlie Frye? The Browns didn't need Hixon at the time of his release last year. What would he have done, take turns returning kicks with Cribbs, the other great MAC player you were rambling about?

I too wish the Browns had Domenik. But he wouldn't have been the difference to put the Browns in the Super Bowl. I'm glad he's doing well in New York.

    Fantastic insight, nonetheless, Rick!

  10. Rick Says:

Yeah, I'm glad I at least have a name, "Hmmm." And as to your sarcastic, but still idiotic points: Please note that the Browns wide-receiver depth behind Edwards and Joe J. was pathetic last year. Hmmm. And having Cribbs paired with another speedster would prevent teams from kicking to him. Hmmm. And, uh, yeah…if you can't see the need for another standout talent to return kickoffs and punts (a lightning rod position for injuries), well then, I can well see why you scratch your butt so often and utter, "Hmmm." Now sniff and wake the hmmmm up, buddy.

  11. Hmmm Says:

Haha. Well conceived response Mr. Rick.

Although, I didn't mean to upset you. Just pointing out that your complaint about Savage was unfounded. He's a fine GM who has a track record of signing talent from his own backyard. Guess he can't sign them all…
