Three new recruiting targets

    Three new offers…

Rodriguez Price, running back, Fairburn, Ga.
    Offers: Akron and Army
    Height: 5-foot-9
    Weight: 175
    Speed: 4.4
Notes: To me, Price’s highlight video showed a rather tackleable runner who does have a burst of speed.

Alex Bayer, tight end, Pickering, Ohio
Offers: Akron, Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio)
    Height: 6-4
    Weight: 222
    Speed: 4.78
Notes: Bayer is agile and has reliable hands, according to Rivals.com.

    Jonathan Atchison, linebacker, Atlanta
Offers: Akron, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Indiana, LSU, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, East Carolina and Navy
    Height: 6-3
    Weight: 216
    Speed: 4.54
Notes: It looks like Atchison is headed for Alabama. Even if he’s not a future member of the Tide, the other SEC, Big 10, ACC and Big East schools should preclude Akron’s hopes.

Having seen him play at Pickerington North (not Pickering, lol) i think Bayer would be an excellent recruit if the Zips can get a commitment from him. He has good size and hands. Plus he has good footspeed for a guy that is his size as well. He could be a good “move the chains” type receiver at TE with ability to break the occasional 25 to 35 yard play in the MAC.

Mike, I’ve noticed that none of the recruits you’ve been listing recently are from the 5-county Akron area - especially Summit & Stark. Is this simply because the talent is down in the area this year or are there other factors that you may be aware of?

    Rob,

I don’t know for sure. It seems like the coaches have been satisfied with getting two or three local guys per year.

I think that’s the best solution when there are more talented players who will consider Akron in other states. (See Georgia, W. Penn., Fla., N.J.)
