Four Zips sign free agent contracts

Football

They didn't hear their names this weekend, but Jabari Arthur (Chiefs), Davanzo Tate (Jets) Nate Robinson (Giants) and Kris Kasparek (Dolphins) will get a shot at the NFL.

Each signed free agent contracts.

Kasparek is excited about his opportunity with Bill Parcels.

Women's basketball

Tom Gaffney wrote an interesting story about the five Zips whom Jodi Kest dismissed for violating team rules.

Mack Rhoades supports the decision, which led to three starters, including Sarah Tokodi, being dismissed. Tokodi's dismissal comes as a surprise because she seemed like an ideal, good-character player for a rebuilding program.

Any word on Schepp? Any possibilities of him signing a FA contract?

Rasor,

who you voting for tomorrow?

mrasor April 29, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Zipmeister,

Cut me some slack. I'm studying so much I can't remember the things that really matter in life… like how to count.

Jeff,

I'm about 90 percent for Alex. Carol Klinger called me, and she seemed like a nice person. But she has some facts that aren't very "truthy." Also, she intends to keep her full-time job. The chairman's position needs to be full time.

What do you think?

Jeff April 29, 2008 at 8:55 pm

I was with Alex months ago, but the manuevering he has done in the past few days, and the amount of money he has spent to save his own job leads me to believe he is worried about one thing, and one thing only, himself and not summit county republicans. He is trying to establish rules that make it a dictatorship, doesnt want a secret ballot, etc. check out some of the information on http://www.newsummitrepublicans.com that they just put up. Its hard to defend.

What's the deal with the women's basketball situation? Is Coach Kest at fault? Are the (former) UA players being unreasonable in their expectations? Five players leaving after a season is kind of alarming, to say the least.

Hey I'm behind you 100% Rasor. Sorry I posted the previous comment four times.

It sure would be nice for Robinson to make the Giants and join Chase Blackburn and Domenik Hixon. Has there ever been three former Zips on one NFL roster at the same time before?

mrasor April 30, 2008 at 10:12 am

Zipmeister,

Hah. That's OK.

GJ,

Seeing how there has never been more than a handful of Zips in the league at one time, I would say about 99.9% "no."

Jeff,

I also got a letter from Alex saying he wanted to keep secret balloting. So you never know who's telling the truth.

Morton,
Women's basketball appears in bad shape to me. I went to a fair amount of games over Kest's tenure. Teams seemed to get worse as year progressed, especially this year.
Offense is horrible, lots of dribbling. One reason the freshman set a record for 3's in a season was because they settled for the 3 a lot, rarely running any semblance of offense – rarely getting ball inside.
Kest has to take some of the blame. Either she's running the girls off the team, or recuiting girls of questionable character. No way she's blameless.
