Brookhart press conference quotes

Posted October 30th, 2007 by mrasor

Football

Key points from Monday’s press conference

Dennis Kennedy hasn’t been running as well this year, and J.D. Brookhart says he doesn’t know why. That’s funny, because the coach was raving about DK to me during camp.

Chris Jacquemain has faded in every second half, Brookhart conceded. His overall grade is a “C.” I’d move that down to a “C-.” I guess no one asked him who would start Friday. I will have the depth chart today probably, though.

If you missed it, Zippy won again yesterday, moving to 7-0. Next up is Cosmo from Brigham Young. The Roo can clinch a playoff spot with a win, and she leads by 400 as of 12:25 p.m. Tuesday. Vote here.

Men’s basketball

The Buchtelite’s Adam Ferrise previewed the season and he’s pretty confident about making the NCAA Tournament.

He mentions a couple nagging injuries to Jeremiah Wood (strained hand) and Ronnie Steward (hip flexor, although I thought it was his groin).

By the way, I ran into Zips’ assistant Lamont Paris at a Halloween party on Saturday. I would recount some of our conversation, but it followed a marathon winning streak in beer pong. I do remember that Paris was dressed as Will Smith from Men In Black.

Yeah, there’s a non-biased publication for you. Like they would pick anoyone other than the Zips to go to the tourney.

  2. fred Says:

Zips will lose if Chris is QB.

Zips score first two qtrs - no score 3rd qtr, maybe they’ll score in 4th qtr.

    Prediction

    BGS 35
    Zips 14

  3. Chris Says:

I think CJ11’s days as the Akron starting QB are over, injuries being the exception. As JD articulated in his press conference, CJ11 has been consistently a first half pony. We are losing games in the 2nd half not the 1st. JD is a fair and compassionate coach and I believe he is going to give CJ7 another chance to prove that he can be a team player and be a disciplined manager of the game. But if CJ7 goes off and does his own thing and we lose again, JD will have a very difficult dilemma before him. I guess that’s why he gets paid the big bucks to be the head coach.

The LAST thing Akron needs is an egomaniac at QB. I’m betting that, as far as JD is concerned, 2008 cannot get here soon enough so that he can insert MR as his longterm solution. Why does this coach have to travel all the way to FLA to bring back a mediocre QB? Don’t we have anyone of equal talent here in this HS football mecca? How hard can it be to convince a top young Akron-area QB to stay home and lead the Zips with their new fieldhouse and stadium? Maybe JD needs to become much more familiar with Akron area coaches.

RE: Zippy…I prefer to think of the kangaroo as a “He”

RE: Hoops team…as long as there are morons voting on the top 64, UA will have to win the conference tourney to get in. Period. Any other way of thinking is stupid and naive.

  5. Bill Says:

Nice to see one of our basketball assistants out drinking at a student house party.

  6. Big Rob Says:

Rasor didn’t say it was a ’student house party’ , simply a ‘party.’ With Rasor being a Law Student, obviously the students aren’t just a bunch of kids, right Rasor?

I agree with Scott in thinkng that Akron will have to win the MAC Tourney to get an invite to the Big Dance. After last years debacle I can’t convince myself that we could ever get an outright bid.

  7. Lee Adams Says:

First of all GROW UP. Now football,Brookhart needs to decide if Jackson is EVER going to play in an Akron uniform or not. No coach who gives two flyin’ yahoodies about the program is going to nail Jackson to the bench all year, the way this team has tanked, then keep him or expect to keep him around next year. I said it before, Jacquemain is not a leader, the players do not see him as a leader, they fail. You know what Jacquemain can’t do. Play Jackson to see what he can’t do. Then next year you can play one of them or once again start over with a no experience QB in rodgers. OH, that is if his shoulder heals.
    Good luck JD!

This was a law school party. Everyone was of age. Let me clarify that first.

Second, Ferrise has never been biased. He predicted the football team would win four games this year. That doesn’t seem so unfounded anymore.

I can’t see the Zips getting blown out. But this season has been very humbling for my predictions… :(
