J.D. Brookhart smartly says Akron has to stop James Starks to beat Buffalo.
On the other side, Turner Gill said his team will still focus its offense on the ground game.
The line is just about even now, according to bookmakers.
I think this will be a game that Zips fans will look back at and say, “Wow, that really defines the season.” That thought can go either way, of course. An Akron loss makes Detroit seem continents away. A win gives the team momentum and some wiggle room for a MAC East loss later in the season, which the Miami game appears to be.
I believe the Zips will win. As I wrote in my column, they will play their most complete game of the year thanks to the bye week, the motivation of John Mackey’s return and anger from the loss to Temple. Bryan Williams will rush for close to 150 yards and Akron’s quarterback will connect with Jabari Arthur at a frightening pace. The defense will hold James Starks to fewer than 100 yards.
Prediction – Akron 31, Buffalo 17

One-half of the job in Buffalo is complete.
Akron beat the Bulls 1-0 to take the lead in the MAC.
Steve Zakuani scored the deciding goal Friday night to give the Zips the conference lead.
The win will give the Zips the tiebreaker, which should make a big difference for the conference championship.

Well Mike, and all of you other J.D. apologists, I wonder if today’s debacle will finally make you see the light. Brookhart had two weeks to regroup and prepare for a team that had never beaten UA at home. Honestly, does anyone think if J.D. had had SIX weeks to prepare, his team would’ve performed any differently? This has become one embarrassment after another. These are ALL his players, so either he can’t recruit, he can’t coach, or both. You can’t tell me that the Temples and Buffaloes of the MAC are just so superior.
Is this the leadership we want, heading into a new stadium in two years? Will there be any fans left at that point?
Where is the game plan? Where is the quality playcalling? How many times do we have to hear Frank Stams utter EACH WEEK: “Zips are only down by two TDs, there’s still a lot of time left” ?? Anyone with delusions about this team, please wake up. And that includes the administration. We saw too much of THIS brand of football before Coach Brookhart ever waltzed into Akron. Remember?

Yes, “that game really defined the season” for Akron.
Great choice to keep Matt Rodgers on the bench this year, Coach, because…ya know, it’s not like we wanted to win the remainder of our games and go to the M.A.C. championship and a bowl, or anything. Does the Quarterback Fairy have to slap you silly before you realize that neither C.J. is the man to helm this team, or lead them anywhere but a sub-500 finish? Take away that Western Michigan miracle, and exactly where are you?

Someone should asked Fleming what was he doing with Jared in the middle as NG and playing on the end. Clearly Nate, Almondo and Jared were all tired. Lively is hurt and of course he’s not worth playing. He plays Nate, Almondo and Jared too dam hard. How can he not let these guys get any rest without putting other D-linemen in? We lose when he defense is tired. Don’t we have anyone else he can put in? Oh, I forgot there goes that personality conflict that he has. If he doesn’t like you, he won’t play you. No matter how good of a player you are. Where’s Lemon and Pendelton? Do they just sit on the bench? Moorehead has the worse play calling for offense. Chris should be sitting on the bench. Where Jackson? Oh, Brookhart is mad at him. Fleming, Moorehead and Brookhart should be looking for jobs next year. They are the worst coaches in the MAC.

Fred you are obviously a player who doesnt play…its given away by your inside knowledge and complaining about personal grudges. Lemon and pendleton suck. He played a true frosh yesterday, cant remember the name so maybe you should stop bitching. This teams problem is not coaching in the least, it is lack of playmakers. Maybe because all of the good one’s were idiots and cant stay in school. Maybe JD should let a bunch of bums and thugs fail out of school and break team rules but still allow them to play and be a cancer to the team. The future for the zips is bright if you “fans” will give it time, but then again you opinions do not matter because if they did you wouldnt be voicing your opinions over the internet.

zipsfb - I see you’re a true Fleming, Moorehead and Brookhart fan. Never say anything bad about them or you’re all over people with opinion. How do you know Lemon and Pendelton suck? Have you seen them play. NOOOOOOOOOOO. Because they haven’t been given much a chance to play. FLEMING is one of the worse Defensive Coordinator in the league. He’s terrible whether you like my opinion or not. I should say that the way you talk you must be a coach or an inside person. You seem like you have a lot of inside knowledge. What true fosh was played yesterday? Was it Dino or something like that. He’s played this guy before, so you don’t know too much yourself. I don’t look at Fred as bitching, I look at Fred as giving his opinion. So, what’s wrong with that. The entire coaching staff needs to be shipped out Akron and fast. If you’re such a true fan, you would open up your dam eyes and face reality.

zipsfb - You must be Fleming since you think Fred has inside knowledge. You are probably him or some other coach for you to make a statement that Lemon and Pendleton suck. What type of fan are you to criticize players you don’t nothing about, that’s if you’re a fan. I believe that you are Fleming searching blogs with nothing to do. You are such a boring old coach with no talent. I can’t wait until Brookhart is fired and you’re out of a job. You hate and you shouldn’t be coaching if you hate. You have to give these kids encouragement to play and do better but you talk about this. You are the low life of all low lifes in this world. If you’re not Fleming, you’re still the low life of all low lifes. You call yourself being a fan and you call these guys, bums thugs and idiots. I think you’re the idiots of all idiots and that you’re not a fan. YOur’re a miserable person with no knowlege and just like to bash other people when they give thier opinion. Wow. Everyone is righteously pissed about the Buffalo loss. Me too. At least this anger is far preferable to apathy! But I’m afraid that the minority of area fans who care passionately about our Zips will start/continue shrinking if we don’t quickly improve the product on the field. I don’t know as much about football as the rest of you, but I must admit, I find the offensive playcalling very predictable and I believe the defense is beginning to give up, knowing that we can’t score the ball.
