As if Zips fans needed another quarterback issue, rumors have the Browns ready to cut either Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson.
As soon as I saw Brady Quinn's field vision in the first preseason game, I knew Frye's time as "the man" in Cleveland was over. It might actually be best for Frye to get a fresh start, although Week Two of the regular season is a bad time to be looking for a new team.

Some news…
Domenik Hixon was involved in a collision that likely will leave a Buffalo Bills player paralyzed. Kevin Everett ducked his head before tackling the former Zips star on a return. Knowing Domenik, he must feel awful.
Notable comments during J.D. Brookhart's press conference: The receivers were pressing, and often ran their routes incorrectly. He admitted the offense was probably too conservative, and maybe didn't run enough. Regarding Indiana: They have great kick/punt returners, a dual-threat quarterback and an outstanding receiver in James Hardy.
Zips recruit Marvase Byrd is having a great start to the season. Rivals.com lists him as a cornerback at the next level. My guess is that Akron offered to let him play running back, which is why he turned down four BCS offers.
Vote for Zippy for the Capital One mascot competition!!!!! This week, (s)he's facing off against Cavman from Virginia.
Men's basketball
In basketball lingo, Zeke Marshall is a "footer."
Well, he's almost seven feet tall. Seeing how the 6-foot-11.5 Pittsburgh native has grown 2.5 inches since last season, Akron, Pitt, Virginia and Virginia Tech have offered Marshall a scholarship.
Neither recruiting site says much about Marshall, probably because he's a rising (literally) prospect.
- Akron also has offered another point guard. Another!?!? Yep.
Aaron Austin, point guard, Woodside, Va.
Offers: Akron, The Citadel, VMI and Radford
Height: 6-4
Weight: 176
Notes: Rivals says his rebounding skills are developing, while he has a good handle and solid strength.

UA receivers ran routes incorrectly? You mean standing flatfooted on either wing at the line of scrimmage waiting for the ball, with defenders right there, WASN'T the route? Wow, coulda fooled me. You only ran it two dozen times in the first 2 games, J.D.
Too conservative on offense? What, you mean you actually have a play in that black-book that'll gain a few yards?
Shoulda run the ball more? Uh, yeah. Against that OSU D-line, that HAD to be what was missing.
Goodness, Coach, who taught you offense? It takes more than the routine crap to compete with a Big 10 school. Please, Mack Rhoades, never allow this football team to schedule a major opponent again, because your Coach has no conceivable idea how to gameplan for it.
You hit the nail on the head there.
And you wonder why the Big East is inferior to the other BCS schools?
Mike, why no comments on KSU and how other MAC teams fared from week to week? I used to enjoy that.
I have been meaning to do that, Ed. Thanks for the reminder.
A few tips for Coach…
1) Season Pass your TiVo to Boise St., Hawaii, games.
2) Watch offense, take notes
3) Watch again, take more notes
4) Repeat as needed
Tip #5: Implement those notes at UA
