TRAVIS IS HONORABLE MENTION ALL AMERICAN

Posted March 28th, 2007 by mrasor

Men's basketball

Romeo Travis' career ended the worst way fathomable.

Today, he can take solace the Associated Press named him one of 48 Honorable Mention All-Americans.

Also listed are LSU's Glen Davis, Georgetown's Roy Hibbert, Gonzaga's Derek Raivio, Ohio State's Mike Conley and UCLA's Darren Collison.

This a great honor for Travis. Hopefully it takes the salty taste out of his mouth. He's the first Zip to earn the honor since Eric McLaughlin.

Thanks for letting everyone else know. Incredibly I sent an email to the University about Romeo and asked why it was not on the athletic home page. They did not know about it either. I read about it in the CLeveland Plain Dealer on Tuesday. Is it any wonder why UA does not get any respect from the NCAA when the Athletic Department does not know one of its student athletes was named an All American by the AP.

    I'm pretty surprised, too.

Although, I had to really search to find a news story that mentioned all 48 honorable mentions.

The list was in the Beacon Journal on Tuesday. The names of the two Ohio State players - Greg Oden (first team) and Mike Conley Jr. (honorable mention) were highlighted in bold but Travis' name was not. I really find that pathetic. I never did get a response from your sports editor. As usual, Ohio State gets priority coverage over the hometown University.
