Zips lose close one

Men's basketball

Akron displayed perhaps its worst offensive performance of the year with plenty of turnovers and several aimless possessions.

It was still a nail-biter that Ohio won 77-72 tonight in Athens.

The Bobcats won the offensive rebounding and free throw battles. Their match-up 2-3 zone also caused havoc and confusion. In the end, most possessions ended with long shots as the Zips refused to work it into the paint or slash to the basket.

Ohio basically sealed the game with an 11-0 run to take a 10-point lead with a few minutes left. The Zips responded with an 8-0 run, but it wasn't enough.

Although I don't have my stats in front of me, Bubba Walther, Leon Williams and Cedrick Middleton had big games. I'll have more tomorrow.

When I tuned in with about 5 min. left & heard that Romeo only had four points, I had to wonder, "What the…?" Zips are gonna die by the long shots, if they try to live by them. Decent run for a few frantic minutes, but they've gotta get the inside game clicking, as well as the 3-pt. tries. There's no one I hate losing to worse than OU, with the traitor Bubbie. It better be a different story at our place.
