Gameday news and notes

Football
It really gets me pumped up to read stories like the one in today’s ABJ.
In it, several Zips talk about the importance of this game.
There is no doubt in my mind that Akron will be just as prepared for this game as the team was for the MAC Championship.
- J.D. Brookhart will script the first dozen or so plays, the PD reports.
- The Wagon Wheel’s history is pretty interesting, if you believe it, that is.
- USA Today’s Danny Sheridan gives the Zips a 1.5-point advantage.
As I stated earlier in the week, my prediction is Akron 28, Kent State 14.

Want some halftime observations: (I don’t care, you get em anyway)
1) Kent wants this game and is playing like it. Akron doesn’t even realize it’s started yet.
2) Stat of the half: Total Kent St Punts: ZERO
3) Akron’s secondary couldn’t cover my grandma, and she has a walker.
4) I’m pretty sure a drunken monkey is running the game clock. (How many adjustments to the friggin clock were made already!?!?!)
5) I’m definately sure a drunken monkey is announcing this game.
6) Akron could not be any dumber if they tried, and judging by this half, they sure aren’t trying very hard. How many penalties can they possibly get in a single season?! Anyone? Anyone?
7) Am I the only one who knows that unless the whistle blows, KEEP PLAYING!!!

Thanks to J.D. Brookhart for one of the worst offensive game plans I have seen in a while. And, he failed to adjust. They needed to run the ball right at Kent’s undersized defense but Brookhart got greedy, again. On top of that, a fat, slow Akron defense obviously was not prepared to stop the Kent option/running QB, like I said last week. Credit Kent, at least they were ready to play. The coaching on Akron’s side leaves a lot to be desired.
Maybe 5,000 at the next game at theBowl?

VEEEERRRRY nice predictions from that group of 4 from the podcast. So well thought out, so well stated.

Easy Todd, Kent did not get THAT good all of a sudden. They will win the East. They would have to revert not to. But they are still one dimensional on offense. And Julian Edeleman was at a JC or whatever for good reason. Other teams won’t be as lame or stupid as Akron and its coaches. Akron is done this year. I assume Kent can beat Eastern Michigan,Buffalo etc. Enjoy it resonsibly. Fame is fleeting.

Lee, if you listened to the podcast prior to the game on Saturday you heard 4 Zipper fans going gaga over the Zips previous win and stating how Kent State had no chance to win. Look at their predictions; they all predicted a multiple touchdown margin victory for the Zippers when the result was exactly the opposite.
I just hope those 4 lads from that podcast enjoyed that thorough thrashing that was administered by Kent State on those Zippers. It was special.
Winning breeds confidence, and Kent State finally has a some playmakers on the offensive side to complement their improving defense.
The 4 fellas from the podcast will need to reconsider their prognostications from here on out.
