Collier takes Butler job

Posted August 1st, 2006 by mrasor

Men's basketball

What does it matter that Nebraska coach Barry Collier is going to Butler to be their AD?

Well, it matters because that leaves a vacancy that Kent State's Jim Christian is expected to fill.

It makes sense for Christian, who would probably double his salary. (Collier's salary was about $600,000.) It really stings for the Flashes, who would need to replace their coach pretty late in the offseason.

This is the sort of thing you don't wish on your worst enemy. I'm not sure if I'll be happy because it makes Akron an even clearer favorite to win the MAC, or upset because it could weaken a blossoming rivalry.

  • By the way, Collegehoops.net previewed Kent State's season. The Flashes are the site's No. 102 in the country and fourth-best team in the MAC. Akron has yet to be previewed, as the site is working down to the top 10 in reverse order.

Let me agree with your quote "This is the sort of thing you don't wish on your worst enemy."

If it was up to me, i would wish he would unexpectedly leave them a week before opening night. :-)

Unfortunately, i see the same thing happening with our football program next year when JD starts getting all those BCS offers after we win the MAC and the bowl game we play in… oh well i will stop thinking about it now and enjoy this great coming season.

Still obsessing about Kent State. Sad, very sad.
