Tennis

Keeping consistent with hiring head coaches with experience as a another Division I school's top guy, athletics director Mack Rhoades pulled Jeffrey Wyshner away from Fairfield University (D-1 in women's tennis).

Wyshner will take over a struggling women's tennis program that was 36-105 in seven years under Tony Fox, who resigned earlier in the summer. The upside to this job is that the team showed some promise last year playing almost all freshmen and sophomores.

Softball

Speaking of successful D-1 coaches who Akron hired, coach Julie Jones attracted Julie Pratt back to her alma mater from Cleveland State, where the two coached together last season.

Pratt was head coach at IUPUI here in Indianapolis for six years. Her record there was 101-191.

Pratt graduated from Akron in 1996 after four letter-winning seasons, including an All-MAC selection in 1994.

Men's soccer

Practice starts Monday.

Freshman Ben Zemanski will be a big man on campus before that.

College Soccer News named the CVCA product as one of 100 national freshmen to watch.

Zemanski is not related to baseball instructor Tom Emanski, or his cohort Fred McGriff.
