Scout.com upgrades Zips targets

Posted June 29th, 2006 by mrasor

Football

Back when Akron initially made offers to several class of 2007 players, no recruiting site had ranked them.

That is beginning to change.

Scout.com recently upgraded eight players whom Akron has offered a scholarship. Each of the following now has a three-star ranking…

  • Wide receiver Tim Cortazzo
  • Safeties David Arnold and Trenton Hughes
  • Defensive end Vincent Browne
  • Running backs Frank Edmonds and Robbie Frey
  • Linebacker Romale Tucker
  • Tight end Ken Bruton

Also of note, Buchtelite news editor Mike Hixenbaugh swears he's going to start updating his Zips blog on SportingNews.com. I don't buy it, but he wrote some interesting stuff about Zac Derr, a former Akron kicker who won the Atlanta Falcons' starting job.

Men's basketball

FoxSports.com confirms that recent commit Steve Swiech will be one of the best recruits a mid-major pulls in this year.

I didn't know Akron was interested in David Arnold. That's awesome. I go to school with him (Copley High School), and he is amazing. So many times he made a play that left you in awe. I say that he may even end up better than former Copley Indian, Delone Carter.

Unfortuately, I think he'll end up going to bigger school. But how awesome it would be awesome to see him commit to Akron.

    VG,

Give David a push in our direction. We'd all love to see him in Blue and Gold.

  3. ZipsNation! Says:

Absolutely yes! Encourage David to be a homeboy and represent! Go Zips!!!

  4. Mike Says:

    P.S. for ZipsNation,

No word yet on non-conference games. Sorry.
