Without yet playing a game in 2006, the Zips bowl chances have improved.

The NCAA approved four new bowls for next season, with a possible fifth. Two of these games could include MAC teams.

As VanDelaySports.com reported about a month ago, the Birmingham Bowl and International Bowl could have MAC representatives.

    From today’s newspaper:

Buchtel seniors Rydell Brooks and Donald Garth have announced where they will continue their basketball careers in college.

Brooks, a 6-foot-2 guard who helped guide the Griffins to three consecutive City Series championships and was named the City Series Player of the Year the past two seasons, will play at Division I Niagara University next season.

Brooks, a second-team Division II All-Ohio performer, averaged 27.5 points this past season.

Buchtel coach Stephen White, who was the Associated Press Division II Co-Coach of the Year, said Garth, a 6-2 guard/forward, will be a preferred walk-on at the University of Akron. Garth earned honorable mention All-Ohio honors after averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds this year.
