Another individual champion

Posted February 26th, 2006 by mrasor

Swimming and diving

Katie Carter joined Danielle Beland as a MAC Champion this weekend. Carter won the 3-meter dive. Megan Walters, along with Beland and Carter, was named to the All-MAC First Team. Sixteen athletes were given that honor. Melissa Young was Akron's only Second Teamer.

Miscellaneous

I was a little surprised not to see the Zips or Flashes games on the front page of the Beacon's sports page today. Both were important games, important enough that one was nationally televised and the other went out to the whole region. In my humble opinion, that is a bad choice.

Still, I think fans have little to complain about. Tom Gaffney has been the best Zips beat reporter I can remember. Also, the games have been featured more prominently than ever before this season.

What?! The Zips played the hated OU Bobcats last night?! To remain in second place in the outrageously tight MAC East race?! To win 20 games?! For a spot in the MAC semi-finals at the Q?! In front of a packed house?! You're kidding me, right?! That was in the Beacon? By their actions the AKRON Beacon Journal reveals that they do not care.

This is the same Beacon Journal that had one, count 'em, one high school basketball story in Saturday's paper. For other stories, they directed readers to Ohio.com. So…are they TRYING to alienate subscribers?

I admit that Akron is better than Ohio in academics and athletics. But Ohio has the best farming program in the nation. Students like OU because of the local farming jobs available. You go to OU to be a farmer. If I wanted to do business or be a lawyer, I'd never go to Ohio U. I'm going to Ohio to be a farmer.

They were going to hire me at Akron to teach farming but Akron decided they didn't need it. Ohio is already #1 in the nation at that.

Like tuggin' on those cow teets, eh, linkhot? Didn't know ya needed a cow-llege edjacashen for that.

Is "farmer" any kin to "hillbilly?" There seem to be a lot of both in southern Ohio. And hey, BUBBA will fit in real good-like with you homefolk.

Y'all come back and read, now….ya hear?!

I hate to ruin your guys' fun, but the most recent post from "linkhot" has a different IP address than the usual linkhot. I suppose it's possible he logged on from another location, but the e-mails also are different.
