Wadsworth & Aurora wrestlers win national titles

Wadsworth High School sophomore-to-be Kagan Squire and Aurora High School senior-to-be Ty Mitch each won a national championship at the at the USA Cadet and Junior Freestyle & Greco-Roman Championships in Fargo, N.D. this past weekend.

Firestone graduate earns MAC Wrestler of Year award

March 10, 2009

Jermail Porter, a 2004 Firestone High School graduate, recently earned the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Year award after the Kent State University fifth-year senior won the 285-pound MAC title in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Porter earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with the win. This will be his third appearance at the tournament.

Perry seniors Sam White and Nick Heflin will continue their academic and wrestling careers at Big Ten colleges, Panthers coach Brent McBurney said.

Perry wins 10th consecutive Federal wrestling title

The Perry wrestling team won its 10th consecutive Federal League wrestling championship by defeating rival Lake 43-21 on Thursday night at Perry.

Walsh Jesuit wrestling rolls in West Virginia

The Walsh Jesuit wrestling team defeated Wheeling Park (W. Va.) 41-33 in the championship finals to finish first Saturday in the West Virginia Duals.

Wadsworth sophomore Brad Squire captured the title in the 130-pound weight class Saturday to help the Grizzlies win the 48th annual North Canton Holiday Wrestling Invitational.

Lake’s Jared Lijoi picks Cleveland State for wrestling

Lake senior Jared Lijoi has committed to continue his wrestling and academic career at Cleveland State University.
Lijoi is entering his fourth season as a key wrestler under Blue Streaks coach Mike Mattingly. Lijoi placd fifth at 145 pounds in the 2007 Division I state tournament in Cloumbus.
