Green senior Krista Roehlig has signed with Ohio University to continue her academic, cross country and track and field careers.

Green senior linebacker Kyle Finch will continue his football career at Tiffin University.

Green senior wide receiver Andrew Pratt has given an oral commitment to continue his academic and football careers on scholarship at the University of Akron, Bulldogs Athletic Director Mark Pfaff said.

Pratt, 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, played receiver for Green and also returned kick offs and punts for coach Ed Cybak. He had 39 receptions for 734 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior. He also returned eight punts for 110 yards and one touchdown.

His efforts earned him All-Suburban League first-team honors in 2011 and he was an Associated Press Division I All-Northeast Ohio Inland District second-team selection.

Pratt also competes in basketball and track and field at Green. He qualified for the Division I state meet in the 400 meters and is a high jumper for the Bulldogs too.

Green senior running back/linebacker Kyle Finch has reportedly been offered by Tiffin, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

It is the first offer fro Finch, who is 5 feet 11 and 202 pounds.

What to look for:   What you’re going to see is two teams in transition.  Green has a new coach in Ed Cybak.  Lake lost prominent members of its offensive  unit, including the seemingly indestructible Jim Luther.  But watch out for sophomore
running back Matt Blasiole and senior running back Jarrod Daugherty.  For Green watch for the play of senior
quarterback Mark Zimmerman who will be expected to show tremendous leadership this year.

CANTON: Willoughby South defeated Green 6-5 Saturday in a Division I regional baseball championship game at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium.

The Rebels advance to the Division I state semifinals with a 23-5 record. The Bulldogs conclude their season with a 23-5 record.

CANTON: Junior right-hander Mark Zimmerman pitched a complete game to lead Green to a 5-2 victory over Shaker Heights today at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium in a Division I regional baseball semifinal.

Green will play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Willoughby South, which won 1-0 over Medina today, at Munson Stadium for a spot in the state final four next week in Columbus.

Zimmerman is 5-0 this season.

Senior Joe Ferrell was 3-for-3 with a two-run double for the Bulldogs (23-4).

Junior right-hander Spencer Byers (4-3) took the loss for the Raiders (12-11).

Willoughby South shutout Medina behind the pitching of junior right-hander Cameron Knott (7-1).

Senior Aaron Lindgren tripled in the fourth and scored for the Rebels (22-5) after junior Jake Hall reached base via an error.

Medina senior left-hander Scott Sency (6-1) pitched a complete game and took the loss. Senior Alex Thielman had three singles for the Bees (18-9), who stranded nine baserunners.

Aaron Hinkle, boys basketball coach at Tallmadge

Aaron Hinkle is the new boys basketball coach at Tallmadge, Athletic Director Don Seeker announced today.

Hinkle was approved by the school board and was chosen unanimously from a coaching pool of more than 50 candidates, the school said.

‘‘We are extremely excited and pleased to introduce Aaron Hinkle to the Tallmadge Boys Basketball family,’’ Seeker said in an emailed statement. ‘‘We are confident coach Hinkle will bring a new level of energy, enthusiasm and excitement not only to the high school program but also our feeder programs at the middle school and youth levels as well. He was very involved and instrumental in the development of youth programs at both Green and Lake Center Christian.’’

Hinkle served as an assistant coach at Green High School for nine years and most recently completed his second season as the boys basketball coach at Lake Center Christian High School.

Hinkle replaces Darrell Ayres, who resigned earlier this year.

• Manchester junior center Tony Matteo has reportedly added an offer from Akron, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

Matteo, who is 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, also has offers from Toledo and Bowling Green.

• Canton McKinley junior free safety Jermaine Edmondson reportedly added an offer from Louisville, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

Edmondson, who is 6-foot-2 and 173 pounds, also has an offer from Toledo.

• Green senior wide receiver Luke Davies has reportedly made a commitment to play football at Mount Union, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

Davies is 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds.

• North Canton Hoover junior quarterback Austin Appleby has been offered by Miami University (Ohio). Appleby, who is 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, also has offers from Toledo, Kent State, Akron, Temple, Buffalo, Western Michigan, Western Kentucky and Bowling Green.

Green Local Schools announced Wednesday morning the hiring of Ed Cybak as its new football coach. His hiring is pending approval from the Green Board of Education.

“I am extremely excited,´´ Cybak said. “This a great opportunity. The community is very supportive and they demonstrated that yesterday [Monday] with a huge levy victory. They showed how important school is with their tremendous support for academics, athletics and other activities like band and choir.´´

Cybak, 43, was the head coach at Fairless from 2003-2007 and an assistant coach at Green from 2008-2010 under Tom Stacy, who left Green for a coaching job at Ashland University.

Cybak teaches world history to sophomores at Green and said he is comfortable working with Bulldogs Athletic Director Mark Pfaff.

“There are a lot of kids here that will play very hard and they are hungry to move the program up to the next level,´´ Cybak said.

“We want to be successsul year in and year out.´´

Cybak graduated from Austintown Fitch in 1986 where he lettered in football and baseball. He earned a bachelors degree in comprehensive social studies from Kent State University in 1990 and a masters degree in educational administration from Ashland University in 1995.

Cybak was also an assistant at Austintown Fitch (2000-2002), St. Mary’s Memorial in Auglaize County (1999) and Ridgedale in Marion County (1992-1998).

“I am familiar with both sides of the ball,´´ Cybak said. “I have worked half the time on offense and half the time on defense while also contributing with the special teams.´´
