The following list includes area football teams that are currently ranked high enough to make the post season and may include those just on the outside looking in.  The top eight teams will make the state playoffs.  Here are this week’s computer rankings as provided by the Ohio High School Athletic Association:

Walsh Jesuit can finally compete for a league championship in every sport.

The high school, which was founded in 1965, joined the North Coast League for this school year and will take part in the Blue Division against rival Archbishop Hoban.

Chardon Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, Mentor Lake Catholic and Parma Padua are other co-ed schools in the NCL Blue Division. Cleveland Benedictine participates as an all boys school and Cleveland Heights Beaumont is a member as an all girls school.

“As far as opponents and so forth, there is really no change for us on our schedule because we generally schedule the other schools in our division,” Walsh Jesuit football coach Gerry Rardin said. “Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin is the only one we didn’t play last year that is now in our division, but we have played them in past years.”

Rardin said this will be the first school year that each Warriors team can play for a league championship.

“I am looking forward to the additional thing that a league race could bring,” Rardin said. “Whatever team wins the North Coast League football championship is a pretty good team and is going to make the state playoffs. I would assume. I cannot see a league champion from this league not make it. Making the state playoffs is the No. 1 goal for sure.

“We are new to it. The kids aren’t talking a lot about it, but I think they will get more excited about as we get closer to it.”

Rardin said the Walsh football team competed in the Inter-County Conference in the early 1980s with Canton Central Catholic, St. Vincent-St. Mary and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Warriors baseball coach Chris Kaczmar helped form the Cuyahoga River Baseball Conference in the late 1990s. The CRBC currently includes Walsh, St. V-M, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Lakewood St. Edward, Gates Mills Gilmour Academy and Hunting Valley University School.

“I think everyone is approaching the North Coast League with an open mind and I think in the long run everyone will really like it,” Rardin said.

The NCL White Division features Cleveland Central Catholic, Parma Heights Holy Name, Warren John F. Kennedy, Bedford St. Peter Chanel, Garfield Heights Trinity and Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph.

In other league news, Nordonia is a full member of the Suburban League this year. Barberton and Northwest are independent schools.

Senior Joe Tann contributed as a pitcher and a hitter to lead the Canton Central Catholic baseball team to a 7-5 victory over Cincinnati Madeira in the Division III state championship game Sunday at Huntington Park in Columbus.

Tann (11-3) pitched three scoreless innings in relief to get the win. He also had two hits, scored two runs and batted in two runs.

Senior Ryan Pack collected four hits and batted in three runs for CCC (26-8).

CCC led 5-0 after scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the third. Madeira (23-2) tied the score with two in the third and three in the fifth. The Crusaders countered with two runs in the top of the sixth.

Crusaders senior Alex Grove scored two runs and batted in one run.

CCC finished with 12 hits Sunday to secure its second state title under Doug Miller, who completes his 30th season as head coach. The first state title came in 2008.

CCC junior Anthony Paone added two hits, and junior Brad Frohman batted in one run.

Pack, sophomore Jake Krupar and senior Tyler Triner all scored one run apiece.

Crusaders seniors Patrick Stump and Thomas Regula also made an impact as starters.

Timmy James paced the Mustangs with three hits and two runs batted in.

The Division III state baseball championship game between Canton Central Catholic and Cincinnati Madeira has been postponed until 10 a.m Sunday at Huntington Park.

COLUMBUS: Canton Central Catholic (25-8) scored five times in the fourth inning and on its way to a 7-3 win over Defiance Tinora (24-4) in the Division III baseball state semifinal Friday night at Huntington Park.

The Crusaders play at 7  Saturday night against Cincinnati Madeira (23-1) for the Division III state title at Huntington Park.

Crusaders leadoff hitter Jake Krupar walked and later scored on a ground out to short by Ryan Pack in the first inning. The Crusaders left the bases loaded in the second and third, though Patrick Stump scored on a bases loaded walk to Krupar in the second.

In the fourth inning, Anthony Paone drove in two runs with a double and pinch runner Will Beese scored on a double off the left field wall by Brad Frohman, who scored on a triple by Stump. A wild pitch brought Stump home.

The Rams scored in the third on a RBI single by Tyler Mckenney and scored in the seventh on a two-run double by Casey Liska.

Joe Tann (10-3) languished at times on the mound for the Crusaders, giving up 10 hits, waled two, hit one batter and struck out eight.

Rams starter Brett Wonders (9-2) was knocked out with two outs in the third inning after walking seven.

Central Catholic notebook: Senior infielder Patrick Stump leads the Crusaders with a .476 batting average and 10 stolen bases. . . . Sophomore center fielder Jake Krupar had a .386 average with nine home runs, 39 RBI, 41 runs, 13 doubles and eight stolen bases. . . . Senior Ryan Pack is batting .426 with 28 RBI and junior Anthony Paone is at .394 with 33 RBI. . . . Seniors Joe Tann and senior Tyler Triner are both batting over .379. . . . Tann is 9-3 with a 1.01 ERA. In 76 innings, he has 124 strikeouts, 20 walks and allowed 54 hits. Junior Brad Frohman is 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA. In 37 innings he has 37 strikeouts, 17 walks and gave up 37 hits. . . . CCC is making its fifth trip to state. The Crusaders won the Division III state title in 2008. They were Division II state runner up in 1997 and 2003, and a Division III state semifinalist in 2006.

Division I, Region II

Massillon, Twinsburg and Canton McKinley currently have a hold on the playoffs with two games left to go.

Medina and Perry sit just outside at numbers nine and 10 respectively.

Division II, Region V

Copley, Tallmadge and Kent Roosevelt have spots in the top eight slots with a showdown between Copley and Tallmadge looming Friday at Copley.

Walsh Jesuit is on the outside looking in at the ninth spot as of right now.

Division II, Region VII

Lake currently has a hold on the No. 4 position for the playoffs, but controls their own destiny.

Division III, Region IX

Field (6-2) faces 6-2 Ravenna this Friday in a big match up for computer points.

Buchtel’s situation is simple:  they have a big game against 7-1 Toledo Central Catholic coming up this Friday.  Beat them and there is a substantial amount of computer points to be won. 

St. Vincent-St. Mary remains in line for the playoffs at the No. 6 spot, but you have to suspect that they must win out against University School and Youngstown Ursuline to remain in their current position.

Division IV, Region 13

Undefeated Manchester currently has a lock on a playoff spot. Canton Central Catholic, currently at No. 10 has a shot of getting in.

Division VI, Region 21

According to this post, Mogadore has already clinched a first round playoff home game. They sit atop computer rankings in this region.

Div. I, Region 2

Massillon, Canton McKinley and Perry currently reside in the elite eight with Medina at No. 9

Div. II, Region 5

Copley and Tallmadge continue to hold spots, the big mover is Walsh Jesuit who make it in at No. 8 primarily because of their win over St. Vincent-St. Mary.  Kent Roosevelt and Ravenna still have shots.

Div. III, Region 9

Field, St. V-M, Buchtel are in the top eight.  It’s apparent the Irish’s loss to Walsh didn’t hurt them too much.  Southeast and Streetsboro still have a shot.

Div. IV, Region 13

Manchester and Canton Central Catholic would be in if the season ended today.

Div. VI, Region 21

Mogadore comes in at the top spot

Twinsburg, Perry, Massillon, Canton McKinley currently reside in the top eight in the region.  Medina and Hoover are within striking distance.

Div. II, Region 5

Copley, Tallmadge, Ashland and Kent Roosevelt make the great eight with Walsh Jesuit an No. 9 and facing a big game against St. Vincent-St. Mary this week.

Div. III, Region 9

Field, St. Vincent-St. Mary and Buchtel are in the top eight with Streetsboro, Southeast and Hoban within striking distance.

Div. III, Region 11

Marlington is in the top eight with Alliance outside looking in.

Div. IV, Region 13

Manchester, Canton Central Catholic rank in the top eight right now.

Div. IV, Region 14

As of today, Orrville ranks.

Div. VI, Region 21

As of now Mogadore is in.

Perry, Medina, Massillon all occupy slots in the top eight with McKinley just outside the magical number.
