Crucial Week For Woodridge

by David Lee Morgan Jr. on October 6, 2009

I have to admit that I was extremely impressed with the Woodridge Bulldogs football team. In Woodridge’s impressive 52-7 win last Friday at home against Mogadore which I covered, I watched senior quarterback Anthony Westren go 19-of-33 for 304 yards and four touchdowns.

I watched senior running back Anthony Kelly rush for a game-high 165 yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns. I watched wide receiver A.J. Graham finished with five catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

And I watched the defense dominate the Wildcats.

But none of that will matter if the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-0) don’t take care of business this week against Portage Trail Conference County Division opponent Garrettsville (5-1, 2-1).

Woodridge, which has never qualified for the playoffs, was ranked No. 12 in the Division IV Region 13 computer rankings last week but should move up in this week’s rankings after defeating previously undefeated Mogadore.

Woodridge has a very potent offense. They have a great core of recievers in Peters, Graham, Johnson and Morgan. The offensive line has also begun to do very well in run blocking. I can’t see Garretsville stopping them. Also the Bulldogs’s defense seems to be getting better every game. A few bad calls in the Chagrin falls game gave Chagrin the victory, otherwise I think this team would be #1 in IV region 13.
