Garfield football update

Garfield (1-2) opens City Series competition against North at noon Saturday at Buchtel. Garfield coach Bob Sax said the Rams are healthy for Saturday’s game with no major injuries.

Sax believes the Rams haven’t put together a complete game on both sides of the ball yet. He wants to reduce the penalties that have created third-and-long situations.  Garfield is coming off a 27-14 loss at St. Vincent-St. Mary last week.

“Defensively we are playing good ball for a couple downs and then give up first downs on third and long or fourth down,” Sax wrote in an e-mail. “We are very young on defense and showing it with mental breakdowns.”

North (2-1) is coming off a 25-17 win over Cuyahoga Falls.

“North is very athletic with tall receivers and players that go hard,” Sax said. “They are really aggressive on defense.”
