Bees ready for Invaders after fending off Stow Bulldogs

by Jim Isabella on September 23, 2009

After defeating Stow, the Medina football team (2-2) faces a big  – and we do mean very big - challenge in playing Normandy (2-2).

“They run the ball 90 percent of the time with their wide receiver splits from the line are about three yards. They are big and tough and their running back (Jack Squirek) is a physically tough runner with great speed,” said Medina coach Greg Reed

Yes, Squirek is the son of former Los Angeles Raider linebacker Jack Squirek, whose interception return for a touchdown in a Super Bowl win over the Washington Redskins was captured on the cover of Sports Illustrated

Reed says Stow did a good job of taking away the running game and forcing the Battling Bees to throw the ball 50 percent of the time.

“We have been splitting our quarterback duties with Noah Johansson and Justin Letts and they have been doing a good job for us,” Reed says.
