Brian Smith to play for Team USA in football event

Walsh Jesuit senior offensive linemen Brian Smith was one of 36 high school players selected to play for Team USA this summer in the inaugural World Junior Championships at Fawcett Stadium, according to the Canton Repository.

Smith, 6-foot-7 and 277 pounds, is a Northwestern recruit.

Two Ohio State signees were also tabbed for Team USA, Licking Valley linebacker Storm Klein and Toledo St. John center Jack Mewhort. Cleveland St. Ignatius safety Pat Hinkel, a Miami recruit, is also a member of Team USA.

The World Junior Championships are June 27 through July 5 at Fawcett Stadium. Chuck Kyle of St. Ignatius is the head coach.
