Callaghan steps down at Copley

April 28, 2009

Scott Callaghan has resigned as boys basketball coach at Copley High School after one season.
Callaghan coached Copley to a 12-10 record in 2008-09 but remained a teacher at Wadsworth, which is also a member of the Suburban League.

Greenlee signs with Walsh

Green senior Chad Greenlee has signed with Walsh University for lacrosse. Greenlee is the first player to commit to the school for lacrosse.
 
Walsh will start its lacrosse program next year, led by head coach Ron Meiser.

SVSM senior Harrison commits

April 28, 2009

St. Vincent-St. Mary senior forward Daylen Harrison has reportedly signed a letter of intent with Wyoming, according to a report from the Plain Dealer.
Harrison helped lead the Irish to the Division II state title this past season.
He also reportedly considered Air Force, Butler, Ball State, Columbia and Cornell.

Louisville junior WR Bobby Swigert (6-1, 175) has reportedly been offered by Central Michigan, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
The Web site said he also has offers from Cincinnati, Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Ball State, Kent State, Bowling Green, Pittsburgh, Indiana and Akron.

Sutton & Williams sign NFL contracts

A pair of former South Rangers pee-wee football players had an exciting Sunday evening.
Akron natives Tyrell Sutton and Bryan Williams, friends since they were children, each signed three-year undrafted contracts with NFL franchises following the conclusion of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Ohio State’s spring game is Saturday

North Canton junior RB Erick Howard and Louisville junior WR Bobby Swigert are among the area football standouts that could attend Ohio State’s spring football game on Saturday in Columbus, according to Bucknuts.com.
The Web site reports several top college prospects could be in attendance for the annual game at Ohio Stadium.

Zips offer junior cornerback

Akron has offered Middletown junior CB Jerry Gates (5-10, 180), according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
It is the first offer for Gates, who had three interceptions for the Middies last season.

Tallmadge senior commits to Mount Union

Tallmadge senior Amber Zito has committed to play tennis at Mount Union.
Zito has been a sectional qualifier each of the past two years.
Mount Union is currently 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The college matched their highest finished in the conference last season when it finished second.

Archbishop Alter junior strong safety Cody Byers (6-3, 195) has offers from Ohio University, West Virginia, Louisville, Wisconsin and Kent State.

Walsh Jesuit junior RB-DB Cameron Ontko (6-0, 215) recently took unofficial visits to Akron, Indiana and Buffalo, according to Walsh coach Gerry Rardin.
Ontko doesn’t have any offers yet, but there has been interest from the Big 10 and the MAC. He’s also taken visits to Michigan State and Wisconsin.
