St. Vincent-St. Mary senior Samuel Trecaso has signed a national letter of intent to continue his education and baseball careers at the University of Akron, according to St. V-M athletic director Andy Jalwan.

Trecaso led the Fighting Irish last season in hits (31) and baTtting average (.449). He also scored 20 runs and had 17 RBI.

Trecaso earned first-team All-Cuyahoga River Baseball Conference honors as a junior
and sophomore, and was named the league’s Rookie of the Year as a sophomore in 2007.

Samuel is a special player that brings many unique intangibles to the table,’’ St. V-M first-year coach Anthony Boarman said. ‘‘On top of being a great baseball player, he possesses a strong work ethic on the baseball field as well as in the classroom.
Most importantly, he is a well respected student-athlete who leads by example.’’
