GlenOak 7, North Canton Hoover 6
Varsity Letters Player of the Game: GlenOak senior running back Anthony Smith. Smith carried the ball 36 times for 145 yards to help the Golden Eagles keep drives alive, run the clock and limit the number of possessions that Hoover’s high-powered offense received.
GlenOak improved to 5-2, 2-2 in the Federal League. Hoover fell to 5-2, 3-1 in the Federal League.
“He’s our guy,” GlenOak coach Scott Garcia said. “He’s the guy that we’ve been riding all year long. And we said, ‘If we’re going to have any success, we have to let Anthony carry the load.’ He did that for us tonight.”

36 times for 145??? how about 39 times for 387? dru jones gets no respect, hes the best back in northeast ohio, maybe even the whole state. everyone better start recognizing the talent he has
I think you’re misinterpreting player of the game. I choose a player of the game every week from the game I cover, and I post my selection on the blog. Last week, I covered GlenOak at Hoover, so I picked a player from that game.
Player of the week is something different, and you’ll be happy to know that Dru Jones will be the football player of the week for Week 7. Check out Thursday’s Akron Beacon Journal for that coverage.
Also, Jones was the Beacon Journal’s preseason offensive player of the year (this honor goes to only one player per season), and he was one of our featured players in the football preview for the second year in a row. Bottom line: Jones does get a lot of respect, and he deserves it.
