Coach returns to Firestone
Posted July 26th, 2007 by Michael Beaven
Bob Black has returned to the football coaching staff at Firestone High School as an assistant to head coach Tim Flossie.
Black was an assistant at Wadsworth for the past four seasons after being the head football coach and a teacher at Firestone for several years. During his stint at Wadsworth, he remained a health and physical education teacher, and an assistant athletic director at Firestone.
“It is great to be wearing the green and gold again,” Black said via e-mail.

What is the outlook for the Falcons this year?
Any updates on Will Fleming and when he might decide for college?

I think Firestone is going to keep improving. After back-to-back 0-10 seasons, Tim Flossie guided the Falcons to a record of 4-6, 3-2 in the City Series last season in his first year as their head coach. The Falcons finished second in the City Series behind co-champs Buchtel (6-4, 5-0) and Ellet (8-2, 5-0) last season. I wouldn’t be surprised if Firestone finishes second in the City in 2007 because the Falcons appear to be closing in on Ellet. The Orangemen beat the Falcons 16-7 last year. I think Buchtel is the favorite to win the league, but I’m not conviced the Griffins are a really strong favorite because I don’t think they are nearly as dominant as they have been in the recent past. I think the City will be pretty wide open this year, so it should be interesting. I will post more detailed City Series predictions in the near future.
As far as Archbishop Hoban linebacker Will Fleming is concerned, I’ll haven’t heard any updates about him selecting a college yet. I’ll keep you posted when I find out.
