LaPorta tries first things first

September 16, 2009

Matt LaPorta doesn’t have an official description yet, as in Indians starting right or left fielder or regular first baseman.
Nothing wrong with that. LaPorta is a rookie with fewer than 40 big-league games on his resume. In most of those, he has played the outfield. But in two of three games against the Minnesota Twins [...]

04-29-09 Morning RoundUp

April 29, 2009

It was one of those games the Indians had no business winning, but they found a way with Boston shining the light.
The Red Sox committed three errors — some could argue four with that Jacoby Ellsbury sliding attempt in centerfield — including the final play of the game that allowed the Indians to snap the [...]

4-28-09 Morning RoundUp

April 28, 2009

The Red Sox extended their winning streak to 11 games last night. The Indians struggle hard enough to get just one.

Wedge keeps the heat on

April 27, 2009

There’s no indication that Indians batsmen have overcome their collective problems at the plate.
Consequently, manager Eric Wedge is trying to keep the pressure on to help the hitters make amends for their ineffective approach at the plate.
Asked if he thought the hitters had gotten the message, Wedge said, “”If they haven’t, I’ll make sure they [...]

relief pitching?
Rafael Perez is being brought back [...]

Chulk making impression?

April 25, 2009

Vinnie Chulk pitched two strong innings Friday night, throwing 94 mile-per-hour fastballs.
So far Chulk has been almost an afterthought in the bullpen — he pitched once in six days — and was called up from Columbus as the eighth reliever when the bullpen was struggling mightily.
Manager Eric Wedge had planned to return to seven after [...]

4-25-09 Morning RoundUp

April 25, 2009

Oh those Cleveland Indians. The cure for what ails you.
The Twins entered Friday nights game having trailed in all 17 games this year. Minnesota sprinted out to a 1-0 lead in the first and never looked back in a 5-1 victory at Progressive Field.

Miller probably headed for risky surgery

April 24, 2009

The conservative approach to Adam Miller’s finger issues hasn’t worked, so the next step probably is surgery.
Injuries have created nothing but grief for the promising Indians right-hander for more than a year. For the past two months, he has tried to learn a new grip on the ball to avoid putting pressure on his middle [...]

Pedro won’t be in Cleveland

April 24, 2009

Far from groundbreaking information on the Indians front, but the Pedro Martinez sweepstakes is starting to heat up, according to fox sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
The Indians, who offered Martinez a contract in December, no longer have the financial flexibility to sign him. The Mets, Martinez’s previous team, say they are not interested. The Nationals, though, could [...]
