Wood’s blister affect potential trade?

by Sheldon Ocker on July 17, 2010 - 1:21 pm

CLEVELAND: A blister on the index finger of Kerry Wood’s pitching hand has landed him on the disabled list, retroactive to last Monday.
Wood hasn’t pitched since last Sunday, so it seems odd that a blister wouldn’t heal in the interim. At any rate, Wood will not be eligible to come off the DL until July 28, three days before the trading deadline.

It’s no secret that the Indians want to trade their closer, but being on the DL would appear to make that possibility all the more daunting, especially given the fact that he blew a 5-5 tie in his last appearance against the Rays at Tampa Bay and has saved only eight games.

To take the place of Wood on the roster, Jensen Lewis was recalled from Columbus. Lewis is beginning his third stint with the Tribe this season. In 20 relief outings, he has a 2-2 record and 3.86 earned-run average in 21 innings. In 12 appearances at Triple-A, Lewis compiled a 2-0 record with one save and a 2.30 ERA in 15 2/3 innings.
