Cabrera says it’s time to play

by Sheldon Ocker on March 18, 2010 - 3:20 pm

GOODYEAR, Ariz.: Asdrubal Cabrera’s strained groin has improved to the point where he thinks he’s ready to get back on the field.

“”I’ve been taking ground balls, and today I’m going to run the bases,” he said this morning. “”I’ve also taken batting practice. Tomorrow, I’m going to play in a game.”

Cabrera has been sidelined for a week. He sustained the injury sliding into third on a pickoff play.

Right-hander Jason Grilli has undergone surgery to repair the quadriceps tendon in his right knee. The rehabilitation process will be lengthy, and he is not expected to be back on the mound for the balance of the season.

Dr. Richard Steadman performed the surgery in Vail, Colo. Grilli sustained the injury during a pre-game drill March 6.
