Yea, you knew that Matthews deal was a stinker the day he signed it, but now quietly the Angels have a had a good off season. They'll be a force to be reckoned with again in '10

I've got no problem with the Indians signing Redmond unless it pushes Marson back to AAA. I'm not too concerned with Marson, but where they really need the veteran is in Columbus. A latin vet to help finish Carlos Santana would seem to be the way to go.

This sounds all too familiar. Although not really a Padres fan, reading this is just like reading what's being said about the local Padres. They trade most of the talent they have for "prospects". They won't pay anyone any money. They were kind of cheap to begin with and have changed ownership to a group led by Manny Ramirez' old agent Jeff Moorad. Now they've gotten cheaper. It really sucks when all you can hope for is to catch lightning in a bottle one year with young guys that had been brought up in the system at cheap contracts but lose them quickly because now that they're good, you can't afford to pay them: see Indians and Padres. Let's see, it's Carmona's turn to have a great year. His contract's probably due up next. That'll guarantee a trade!

Wow, we could've had Gary Matthews, Jr. and $21.5-million in cash...for a junk reliever....from the Angels.

Baseball execs, please take note: For decades now, you've doled out idiotic contracts to buffoons, steroid-users, and mediocre flash-in-the-pans. After ONE average season, the Angels lavished $50-million over 5 years for Matthews, who flopped from Day 1.

The list is too long of players like his ilk who've cashed in at the owners' and fans' expense, but never posted numbers even approaching worthiness. OWNERS and GMs: STOP GIVING OUT THESE MULTI-MEGA-MILLION-$-DEALS!!!! You're ruining the game for all of us. The cost is passed on to the fans, who can't afford tickets as it is. And we're rapidly losing interest because of the corruption, cheaters, and outlandish deals. It's a huge turn-off.
