LaPorta to miss 4-6 months

by Jonas Fortune on October 14, 2009

Cleveland Indians outfielder/first baseman Matt LaPorta underwent surgical procedures to repair his left hip and left big toe yesterday in Vail, Colorado. The procedures will force LaPorta to miss 4-6 months.

LaPorta underwent arthroscopic surgery for a “debridement of a bony impingement in the joint” in his left hip,  according to an Indians press release. In a separate procedure, LaPorta had a loose joint stabilized in his left, big toe.

The injuries hampered LaPorta down the stretch as he missed several games due to the hip. He injured his toe in the season finale at Fenway Park.

After being recalled on Aug. 19, LaPorta hit .273 (38-139) with 12 doubles, six home runs  & 17 RBI in 39 games this season at the major league level.

That’s a shame. He’s a great guy. He’s the only one who continually signs autographs for the kids before the games, at least in September…
