Sizemore headed to the DL

by Jonas Fortune on May 31, 2009 - 11:15 am

For the first time in his career Indians centerfielder Grady Sizemore will be on the Disabled List. A bothersome left elbow had restricted Sizemore to designated hitter duties over the last few weeks before pushing him to the 15-day disabled list with left elbow synovitis (inflammation) Sunday.

Taking Sizemore’s place on the 25-man roster will be utility player Chris Gimenez, who is being called up from Triple A Columbus.

Designated hitter Travis Hafner has until Wednesday to finish his rehab assignment at Columbus, but left Saturday night’s game with soreness in his right shoulder. Wedge expects him to play today.

Gimenez is hitting .235 (32-136) this season, but is hitting .339 (19-56) with six doubles, four home runs and eight RBI in his last 16 games. For the season, he has eight doubles, six home runs and 15 RBI in 39 games.

He is also very versatile, playing 24 games at catcher, eleven games in left field and three games at first base.

Come on management get your head out of you a$$. Calling up guy who has a .235 average in AAA. This is a freaking joke. You all need to start looking for new jobs soon. I hope everyone comes off of the bench/DL quickly so we can get this waste out of Cleveland.

Don’t be irrational, Matt. Victor Martinez is going to be out of the lineup for the next couple of days, so Gimenez has to come up to be Kelly Shoppach’s backup catcher.

With all of the injuries the team is suffering, what would you have management do? The Cleveland Indians aren’t out of the central race yet, and have played better as of late.

If they brought up a bunch of prospects, you would be mad because they’re giving up on the season. If they try to turn the season around with legitimate major league players, you get mad. Quit complaining about everything.
