In the words of Agent Maxwell Smart…."missed it by that much!
According to an official press release sent out today from the tour cog in the American Idol Machine (AOL, in case you're wondering) currently guiding winner David Cook's nascent career Akron fans were oh, very close to experiencing Cook, right here at downtown Akron club Musica.
However by the time the dates were finalized the hip and happening club tour became a slightly less hip and happening college tour that erroneously included a March 23 date at Musica.
"Musica has been getting really good feedback from the bands that have played here," Timothy Eddings of Celebrity Etc. who books the venue said.
"And (Cook's management) was planning on doing a club tour to play the hipper new venues on their list and that's why we were considered," he said.
After being asked to submit a bid for Cook, Eddings said the club held the March 23 date for quite some time hoping that they would be included on the tour but the focus shifted to college campuses.
"The thing that's kind of funny is (Cook's management) said that `this just shows you how close you were to getting the show,' Ok, thanks, " Edding said laughing.
So, even though Musica will not play host to Cook, the incident does say something about the club's growing reputation in the touring industry and Eddings and Musica's ability to attract up and coming hip and happening bands such as Manchester Orchestra, Ra-Ra Riot (performing on March 25) and Dead Confederate (performing on March 11).
"We're developing great relationships with the Agency Group (who books bands such as Bloc Party and Barenaked Ladies) and CAA (industry powerhouse Creative Artists Agency who has biggies such as Eric Clapton and Kid Rock) and the bands that have played here have been really, really happy," he said.

This is just wrong. They released the dates this morning, and us Ohio fans started planning and setting things up already to have the rug pulled out from under us. Whoever thought it was a great idea to release those dates unconfirmed needs to be fired.
Malcolm, you claim to be a local music expert yet you totally ignored the return of the High Plains Drifters, the GREATEST rock & roll band to ever come out of Akron, who got back together for a KILLER show last night at Annabell's…and here I thought you knew how to RAWK!! Shame on you
I read Sound Check often and never knew Malcolm claimed to be a local music expert. I didnt know he claimed to be an expert of any music. I thought he was just a super knowledgable fan of lots of genres.
Also, just wondering, did the anyone tell Malcolm about the show at Annabell's or was he just supposed to use his "expertise" to know that.
Oh and on the point. Not a fan of David Cook, at all, but I think that blows for his Akron fans to miss such an opportunity. The business side of music sucks.
