Backstreet's DOH!

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Dude, I forgot.
It'll be on the web in a few hours, anyway.

Your dreams have been answered…Backstreet's Back!!

Monday, August 6th, 2007

In just a few short hours we all will have the opportunity to be among the first to hear the new single "Incosolable" from THE BACKSTREET BOYS!

I know that, like me have missed the fivesome who are now foursome because Kevin Richardson (the brooding guy with the mustache) has had the good sense..I mean, he decided to take a break to pursue "other projects."
The "band" refused to replace him, leaving the door open for any possible return.

Good for them.

6 pm. kids at z100.com a full two weeks before it "impacts at radio" (I love that radiospeak. Doesn't it really only "impact" if listeners (or record companies with extra kickback money to construct radio playlists) respond to the song?

Anyway, this campaign could be one of those last chance attempts by their record company, Jive to see if there's any remaining blood to be wrung from this previously profitable turnip.
The 90's are over and whenever teen pop makes another big comeback, the B-Boys will likely be B-MiddleAgedMen, a combination that historically doesn't mix.

Hey! Here's some official press release gobbeldygook

“Inconsolable” was written and produced by Emanuel Kiriakou (Nick Lachey “What’s Left Of Me”, Katherine McPhee “Ordinary World”), and co-written by Lindy Robbins and Jess Cates.

OK, so we can guess that it's a song that has been carefully crafted to be a broad, mainstream pop hit and it likely cost more to have written than it did to record.

Also the two songs mentioned suck.

But wait! Here's more PR crap!

This month the Backstreet Boys celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their first U.S release. Backstreet Boys. To date they have released 5 studio albums and have sold over 75 million albums worldwide, and (sic) making them one of the most successful groups of all time.

And good for you boys, you had a helluva run. I hope you did smart things with your money.

But, uh…You may want to begin seriously contemplating the next phase of your respective and individual careers.

Joey Fatone ain't waitin' 'round for Justin to feel like singing "Bye Bye Bye" again.

Remember, 6 p.m. z100.com

You're a little curious aren't ya?

Quincy Jones TV

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Here's a neat use of your broadband connection (seriously, if you don't have one, you're only wading not surfing the Interweb Super Roadway), music legend quincy Jones has started a 26 episode video podcast series on his website quincyjones.com that will include "footage of the musician at work in the studio and at exclusive events around the world. Also featured in are Jones' takes on film, popular culture, politics and world events."

OK, for me it's the work in the studio that i'm interested in seeing and episode one gives us five minutes with Celine Dion in the studio recording her vocal for I knew I Loved You from the recent underwhelming tribute album We All Love Ennio Morricone.

Yes, I know five minutes with Celine Dion sounds like torture, but it's an interesting and educational clip especially for aspiring pop stars (which seems to be just about everybody under 25 these days) because whatever you may think of Ms. Dion's product, the lady can sing.
But it should prove instructive for anyone who things that being a singer is just going up to the microphone and belting out the song like you're on stage with the crowd awaiting your every syllable with baited breath.
Nuh-uh my little Cheetah Girl wannabes.
Watch Dion, Jones, co-lyricist Alan Bergman (I think) as they painstakingly go through each line of the song to get the right intonation, phrasing, volume, and other details as she interprets and records over the course of a few hours.
Now, that would be torturous.
I'm looking forward to episode 2 due this month.
