A stinker in Orlando

April 3, 2009

The Cavs played in Orlando Friday night. I was not there. Sadly, neither were the Cavs. This was as bad a game as the score indicated — and in the third quarter the score indicated the Cavs trailed by 41 points. Yes, the Cavs were coming off back-to-back games, and the season is winding down. [...]

The Cavs beat the Pistons in an ugly … err … pretty game

March 31, 2009

I didn't think much of the way the Cavs played Tuesday night. They struggled in an ugly game, but made enough plays to beat Detroit.
Mike Brown, though, loved the game.
"It was a good, ugly, physical grind-it-out type of game," Brown said.
Which clearly is not the kind of game that Dayana Mendoza would play at Guantanomo. [...]

So who gets the eighth seed?

March 17, 2009

Who will the Cavs face in the first round of the playoffs? ESPN's epic odds dude says it will be Chicago. Better them than the Knicks. Can you imagine the number of "it's only 732 days until LeBron signs here" stories we'd have to see if it was Cavs-Knicks? The count would reach EPIC proportions.

The Cavs are ever so close to the top seed in the East

March 16, 2009

Boston seems to have lost hope of gaining the East's No. 1 seed. The Cavs haven't clinched it yet, but it would take an epic collapse for Cleveland not to have home court advantage. A win over Orlando Tuesday night would only make things that much clearer. After Sunday's win, the Cavs are given an [...]

Another look at Mike Brown

March 13, 2009

It's been my contention that Mike Brown is underrated and underappreciated as a coach. He's a victim of the "Cleveland woes," an illness cause by a 40-year championship drought which causes folks to be excessively critical of really good coaches just because they haven't ended that drought. In a story written before last night's win [...]

Highlights of another impressive road win by the Cavs

March 13, 2009

Included are two amazing defensive plays by LeBron. On one he swats a breakaway layup, something he's done more than 20 times this season. On another he blocks a 360-dunk attempt. The guy deserved it; a layup would have worked.
I maintain James does not get enough credit for two elements of his game — his [...]

Some thoughts on the Cavs trade

August 14, 2008

Some random thoughts on the Cavs’ deal to acquire Mo Williams:
—Hate losing Joe Smith. Guys like him don’t come along often. Consummate pro. But … as they say … whoever they are … you got to give something to get something. Besides, I'm an old fuddy-duddy who takes a liking to guys like Smith. It's [...]

Agent Zero to start?

April 24, 2008

Here we are in Washington, D.C., and no matter how many times a person visits — or even lives here (which I did in a previous life) — there's always something special about arriving and seeing the monuments and the neighborhoods and the centers of government. Great town. With a great subway system (the Metro). [...]

Halftime of Cavs-Wizards

April 19, 2008

All the talk that the words of the Washington Wizards didn't matter … forget that. This is going to be a heated, intense series. The first half was near violent, with LeBron James twice getting clubbed on the way to the basket and then responding with an elbow to the jaw of Andray Blatche, the [...]

Cavs talk to the media

April 18, 2008

Your Cleveland Cavaliers met the media today to discuss the upcoming playoff series with Washington.
A couple quotes that stood out to me were:
LeBron James: "As long as I'm on the court, we'll be all right. And I mean that."
No argument here.
James: "I can't tell you if we're a better team than last year until we [...]
