Manny Acta talks Indians at the winter meetings

December 10, 2009

New Indians manager Manny Acta met with the media at baseball's winter meetings in Indianapolis this past week. Obviously, I was not there, but MLB provided a transcript of the interview. Here are a few highlights from Acta, and he spoke before the team announced the injuries to Carlos Santana and Adam Miller.
His hopes for [...]

Regarding Grady Sizemore and those photos … huh?

December 1, 2009

Now that Christmas is here I think I'll get that special someone a naked photo of me with a certain body part behind a coffee cup.
Send her running and screaming from the room, that's what it'd do.
I mean …. I must live in a completely separate reality from some others.

Three make the top 100

July 23, 2009

Grady Sizemore ranks 38, Victor Martinez 51, and Cliff Lee 61 on Joe Posnanski’s list of the top 100 players in baseball. I'd have Sizemore lower and Lee higher. Perhaps they should have swapped spots.

That loud THUD is the Indians

May 20, 2009

Well perhaps last night was the low point for the Cleveland Indians. Rock bottom.
Cliff Lee pitched outstanding, but Kerry Wood – the guy brought in to solve the late-inning problems of a year ago – blew a save and the Indians dropped to 14-26, worst in the American League and better only than the miserable [...]

We interrupt the NBA playoffs to opine on the Indians

May 11, 2009

Noticed from afar that the Indians are 11-21. That would not seem to be good.
Let's do the math. The Indians have lost nearly twice as many as they've won, and if they want to win 90 games they'll have to finish the season 79-51. That's 28 games over .500, and a .607 pace. It can [...]

Revisiting Grady Sizemore

May 1, 2009

I offered some thoughts yesterday on Grady Sizemore, and the main one was that his batting average is too low and his strikeouts too high for my taste.
A good friend I've never actually met but have communicated with frequently, Geoff Beckman of the Tribe Report, pointed out that Sizemore's walk and strikeout totals are high [...]

An Indians thought

April 30, 2009

Isn't Grady Sizemore too good a hitter to be hitting .239? That's what we're told at least. Or have been told. This was a guy projected to be an AL MVP. He also has 23 strikeouts, second-highest on the team to Jhonny Peralta. When was the day we thought we'd see Sizemore's strikeouts up with [...]

Indians win Thursday wasn't well-played, but it was a win

April 24, 2009

I wasn't overly impressed with the Indians game Thursday, except that they won. Kansas City did the Indians a great favor by leaving in Gil Meche for one inning too many, then by bringing in a lefty Grady Sizemore could hit. Sizemore took him deep for the game-winning home run. Their chances until that point [...]

Maybe this jumpstarts the Indians

April 16, 2009

Good for the Indians. They took what could have been a very difficult setting – the first real game in the new Yankee Stadium against CC Sabathia – and turned it into an easy win.
Grady Sizemore hit a grand saluki, or salami, or whatever it is. Victor Martinez had a big game. Jhonny Peralta and [...]

Interesting stuff on Grady Sizemore

March 3, 2009

This baseball stats site points this out about Grady Sizemore: "Grady has made $4.2 mil in his young major league career while producing at levels valued around $102 mil, a mind-boggling number." The in-depth numbers tell the story — if you can understand what these in-depth numbers mean. I kind of read it like Linus [...]
