I love Jack Clark … and Carlton Fisk

Add Carlton Fisk to the list of ex-baseball players who should be admired for calling the steroid group what they are: A bunch of hypocrites. Ex-players who know their statistics can never match the ones of those who cheated might just be voices of reason, because they will point out the truth.

When a player who puts up obscene numbers due to performance-enhancing drugs comes out and says he took the drugs “for medicinal purposes only,” he is being a fraud.

Just like he was on the field.

I disagree with Carlton Fisk. He should have stepped out of the shadows back then. To now come out and say what everyone seems to be saying, aren't they just as big of hypocrites. To say, yes I knew BUT….that but is just as damning as the steroid use is.

Everyone kept their mouths shut because those guys were driving up salaries. Those guys were making the game a headline sport night after night. Nobody wanted to step on the brakes even though everyone knew what was happening because everyone was making money.

And since no testing was being done, how do we know for sure that many of these guys coming out now against the steroid use had little talent and the steroids they used made them average or slightly above?

I'm not suggesting that Carlton Fisk was a steroid user. I am suggesting that the perfect way for a steroid user to cover their guilt would be damn the ones who do admit their guilt.

JBD, Fisk's career ended in 1993. Jack Clark's career ended in 1992. A little too early to start calling people out. Fisk certainly didn't benefit by any bumps in salaries caused by bloated frauds, and neither did Clark. By the time even the Omar Vizquels of the world were treating their bodies like pin cushions, it was nearly 10 years later.

alan…they all just lump together as a bunch of names and the years they played all SEEM close together while they technically may not…so that would change my point about Fisk and Clark BUT there will be others who will criticize who did look the other way when they could have said something.

JBD, Marion Jones sued that Victor Conte guy for slander before the facts came out. Liberace once sued for libel and WON, even though he obviously was the biggest queen that wasn't a member of the Royal Family. Why in the world would Jack Clark or Carlton Fisk or anybody else have risked having their checking accounts drained to zero, even though years later they would have been proven right?
