I think the photo is of the tree at Sterling Lindner Davis dept. store. My folks used to talk about it. That store and its massive Christmas tree is a bit before my time, but I remember the special trips downtown to Public Square and all the big dept. stores growing up in the '70s.

My Mom who didn't drive..taking me and my brother Sean downtown Canton via the city bus to visit the department stores(Grants, Kreskies,Oneils, the Five and Dime) while my nine other siblings were in school. This woman was a saint!

Some of you wanted a mural update
I asked Coach Mangini and as of this date
I'm pleased to correct Pat's misstated facts
It was not removed and it is coming back

When coach came to town, his shrewd eyes spied
A light on the mural that wouldn't light on one side
So we took it back to the workshop, my dear
We're fixing it there and we'll bring it back here

We would drive from Garrettsville and get on the rapid transit in Shaker Heights. It was a thrill for my mom, sister and I to get off at terminal tower. After shopping at Halle's, and maybe getting a malted at the little counter near the escalator, we would walk the cold windy blocks to Stirling Linder Davis to see the big tree. My husband has the same memories, going to Cleveland from Canton on the bus.
