The fallout here will affect the Browns

I'm not thinking this news is going to help the Browns cause in hiring Mike Holmgren. In fact, it almost seems as if this news means that Holmgren most assuredly will be working for Seattle next season.

I'll give Seattle this: This is how you do it.

When you determine that your GM or HC is not coming back next year, you fire them (or get them to resign) immediately. That way you can get a jump on finding their replacement.

Not canning Mangini now only puts us behind the eight ball if he ends up being fired at season's end. But this is typical Randy Lerner logic: discard all accumulated information and let your decision be dictated by a small subset of meaningless games at year's end.

It is how he has operated since he took over. Aberrations turn into contract extensions, and long term decisions over who should be fired are made based on the last five or six games of a season.

And we wonder why he never gets it right.

Well, frankly, I wasn't all that excited about Holmgren anyway. He certainly hasn't "proven" that he has any GM skills.

I do agree with Miguel…Lerner seems to have no logic or reasoning behind his moves whatsoever.

And finally, you think the Browns are in a bind? How'd you like to be the guy who committed to Charlie Weis for ELEVEN years at Notre Dame, then axed him after FIVE? Good money, if you can con it.

people are a bit confused about holmgren's stint as g.m. in seattle. he was actually a damn good g.m. much of the team that went to the super bowl was built by him. the problem wasn't his g.m. duties. it was his coaching. after he dropped the g.m. job he had 5 seasons in a row where they made the playoffs. before that only one playoff apperance.

anything is an improvement.unfortunately i have been saying that for 30 years.g.d. that is sad.

The Browns have changed players, changed coaches, and GMs to no avail. Until Lerner changes, we Browns fans will continue to be disappointed. Winning meaningless games at the end of the season is just that…………….meaningless.
