more like a "no comment" from gruden. chucky has spent the last couple days defending mangini and telling browns fans to be patient and to give him a few more years. not sure where he's getting his drugs but if that's his position he can stay in the booth forever. just last night he was saying mangini was a "good coach". in which reality chucky? this one or the one where you followed the bunny rabbit down the hole?

My computer's not fast enough to watch or listen to anything online, but I liked Gruden's comments during the game. I even thought it might be nice if he was brought in to coach the Browns next year.

What struck me, though, and why I'm commenting, is that he was actually watching the Browns and seemed to see things that were obvious to those of us who live in northern Ohio and see the Browns regularly. Why can't Mangini see the same things?

    Terje,
You know that those guys look out for each other…but after watching the reality that is Browns football, even he couldn't hide his amazement.

I think that this is the best booth in the NFL today. Jaworski can grate on your nerves, but at least he knows the game. Gruden's insight and motivating way of delivering is excellent, and Tirico can hold it all together, no matter the sport. OK: let all of the dissenters comment.

Also, the Browns are not 1-8; they are 7-2, and, as far as I'm concerned, having a GREAT season. And they just opened as a PICK against the Lions. The lows just keep on getting lower.

Keith: I think in Eric's head the play is drawn up perfectly – it has to work, there's no way it can fail, there's no reason to edit it, it's brilliant.

And he completely misses all the other variables: the ability of the players on the roster, the defenses or offenses he's playing against, and the strategy of his opponent.

I've noticed working for a control freak that there is no room for negotiating, because that is a sign of weakness or a chink in the armor. If they give a smidge, then their control is completely underminded.

He'll stick to his plan, his script, till the whole thing implodes on him… which at this point, I can't imagine what else could go wrong.

Drew, the Lions are a 3.5 point favorite in Vegas. Give the points!

  6. terje says:

you'd think the bookies would have learned by now. but hey, if they want to keep bleeding cash on browns games more power to guys like drew.

  7. drew says:

Thanks Brian, I just saw that update. I predict a Lions blowout, they have to be licking their chops at the thought of a team that they know that they are better than.

  8. Brian D. says:

Assuming the Browns hire a football czar like Holmgren to run the franchise, who are they going to get to take over as head coach after they fire Mangini?

Someone like Cowher and Shanahan would won't complete control….which they won't have with someone like Holmgren around. Gruden may be willing to coach under Holmgren since they are friends…not sure. I don't think Dungy is coming out of retirement yet.

So, do we have to hire another assistant to be head coach? Leslie Frazier, Viking's DC? Greg Manusky, 49ers DC? Pat Shurmur, Ram's OC? Todd Bowles, Dolphin's coach? Pete Carmichael Jr. or Gregg Williams of the Saints?

They need to hit a bullseye with their next selection!

  9. Joyce B says:

just like a super brain like Terje to think the bookies are bleeding cash……….that got a collective laugh from everyone on this board. Go Browns, beat the Lions!

  10. terje says:

joyce, the mushrooms have taken a toll on your brain. just last week yahoo ran an article on the bookies getting killed on nfl games this year. just ask drew if you don't believe me. now go get some help, you're getting more confused by the day.

  11. drew says:

Terje is correct; Vegas was getting destroyed through week 6 or 7. For the first time in a long while, they considered taking games off of the board, specifically the Rams, Bucs, and….wait for it…YOUR CLEVELAND BROWNS!

    FIRE MANGINI NOW!!
