Who?

by Pat McManamon on November 12, 2009

in McManamon, What the heck?

So (thanks to Brian and others who pointed this out) The Who will do the Super Bowl halftime show.

With two members having passed on.

Does that not technically make it The Ho?

Or perhaps Who's Left?

This clearly means The Doors will do next year's show. Or Elvis. Or perhaps even The Beatles.

i saw the who at that stadium show in 1988. they sucked with entwhistle. i'd rather hear farts in a bubble bath than the who in 2010.

"Farts in a Bubble Bath." Actually, that would be a catchy name for an album.

"And the 2010 Grammy for Album of the Year goes to (envelope is carefully torn open) … Celine Dion for "Farts in a Bubble Bath!"

Elvis!! Live From The Bathtub " The Lost Tapes" OR Michael Jackson.. Blows Bubbles in The Bathtub Redux

I like The Who. We shall see how they do!

Oh, come on. It's absolutely ridiculous. Roger Daltrey is going to be three weeks away from his 66th birthday. In fact, Shaun Rogers uses Daltrey's oxygen mask. To make matters even more embarrassing, the Vegas line is 4-1 that Chris Hansen from the show "To Catch a Predator" will handcuff Townshend after they lip-sync the line "With our children at our feet" from "Won't Get Fooled Again."

I also saw the WHO in 1988 and they were fantastic…….of course the mushrooms helped. Saw them again in New York at MSG for the 9/11 spectacular and they blew the roof off the place. Music sucks today, so that's why the old guys still rule! Please Pat, if you have any sense left, bar these two jerks – Terje and his mentally challenged brother, Alan – from further comment on this website. Even though I find their comments funny on rare occasions, they really don't add anything worth discussing. I pity them both….don't make me pity you also.

ah….mushrooms. that explains everything joyce.

alan t. November 12, 2009 at 10:57 pm

Joyce, given your fondness for the word "pity," you will make a formidable Mr. T in the remake of "The A-Team." Good luck!

Pat, Pat, Pat…how can you forget?
Elvis was part of the Super Bowl XXIII halftime…Elvis Presto – the Elvis impersonator magician!

The Super Bowl committee was going to select The Kinks, but they just released a new(?) album on Tuesday, so they were considered too topical.
Then they were going to add The Dead to join The Who, but they thought that would be redundant.

But seriously, I can't believe they haven't tagged Kenny Chesney yet. Whether you like country or not, he has been one of the top grossing concerts for several years now.

Forget the A Team movie…they are putting out a Yogi Bear movie next year!!! Dan Ackroyd will voice Yogi and Justin Timberlake will voice Boo Boo. No word on who is going to land the plum role of Ranger Smith.

I never liked Yogi Bear. I mean, was he *really* "smarter than the average bear?" What a LeBron-sized ego.

And why was he always wearing a collar? Nobody has ever been able to answer that question. I've seen lots of bears on The Discovery Channel, and I have never seen one wearing a collar. Was Yogi into S&M?

I hear they have already booked the musical act for 2012's Super Bowl…

The Glenn Dorsey Band!!!

Saw the Who at the sold out Verizon Center in 2007 – great concert – 2 1/2 hrs, laced with hits and new material from their '07 album, The Wire. Very moving as well with video reflections of the band's history. Daltry looks like he's 35 with flat gut that some previous posters could only dream of, and hitting the high notes. Pete was very funny and still playing intense guitar, certainly better than most 20 something's out there. Ringo's son, Zack Starkey, on drums was also great, very powerful. Nothing like hearing thousands of 50+ yr olds shouting "Hope I die before I get old" – the super bowl with Bruce/Petty the previous years is finally recovering from the embarrassing "musical" puke of the timberlake/jackson debacle which sucked.

Maybe that would be a good blog post for the future: who do you want to see as the Super Bowl half time show?

Its three, four songs tops. I think Roger & Pete can handle it. There are a lot of acts I'd like to see do that, but the first one I thought of was the Foo Fighters. They might be "old enough" now with a greatest hits package available.

G November 13, 2009 at 11:13 am

I believe the "Ho" actually performed with Justin Timberlake a few years back, no?

Brian D. November 13, 2009 at 11:18 am

Time to "retire" the senior citizens and get some younger blood at the Super Bowl. Some acts I think would be good choices:

Foo Fighters – I agree with Elizabeth, awesome live band.
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Another excellent, high energy live act.
Kenny Chesney – A good choice for a party.
Toby Keith – Patriotic performance could whip the crowd to a frenzy.
Bon Jovi – He was rumored to be the choice this year (guess they didn't want back-to-back Jersey boys). Not a favorite of mine, but I think he would do a good show.

Elizabeth November 13, 2009 at 1:27 pm

I do have one additional request: can we NOT have the paid audience on the field anymore. Its so annoying. Put the camera on the act, not the crowd.

Fake audiences and rally towels — just two things I'd like to see the end of in sports. Been there, done that, not so cool or original anymore.

prince set the gold standard. everyone else sucks in comparison.

brian's list (although awful in it's own right) would be an improvement. at least the bands/artists have some relevance to modern times.

True Fan: Petty and his band faked it. Springsteen and his band faked it. How can that possibly be considered "recovering" from Janet Jackson/Timberlake faking it? I'm not into frauds perpetrated upon the public.

But if they're going to pull yet another fraud, you know what would be "recovering" and that I'd actually enjoy? While Townshend is pretending to play, Daltrey rips open Townshend's shirt during a "wardrobe malfunction," and "accidentally" exposes Townshend's sagging boob with a tiny Scotch-taped silver star hiding his nipple. And all the stadium lights magically immediately turn off and turn to black.

Now THAT would be "recovering."

Alan T – all performers have their backing tracks pre-recorded – tell me how can anyone set up a large stage set up with NO soundcheck and expect an on time performance? IT CANNOT BE DONE. The vocals are live. However, what if there is a technical problem that takes 10 minutes to fix – not a problem at a regular concert, but for a scripted EVENT (not a concert – there is a difference) that is a disaster. Delay the game? Have dead air? Are you kidding? "Fraud" is your word, but entertainment for the unwashed is what the SB is promoting, not a concert experience. It is a tradition now, with big numbers – and Bruce, Petty, U2 etc., play along because of the spectacle. To suggest that these bands are perpetuating "fraud" is idiotic — this is all controlled by the Super Bowl, go bitch at the Commissioner of the NFL, not legendary bands or performers who you can learn about at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Maybe you could get an education and actually learn something about rock and roll.

terje November 18, 2009 at 3:16 pm

once a rock n roll band mimes a performance it ceases to be a rock n roll band. they become a sad caricature of a rock n roll band. not surprisingly, most of these so-called rock n rollers are in the so-called rock n roll hall of fame or as it's alternately titled, "the place where rock n roll goes to die".
