Just to prove I'm not the only person beating up on Mangini, I offer three takes from profootballtalk.com:
Mike Florio writes that naming Brady Quinn the starter is "roughly as relevant to the team's fortunes as the question of whether the Browns will wear white pants or brown ones."
Here, Florio says that Mangini is "lying or incompetent" when he says in the CBSSports.com interview that he did not know what Quinn's incentives were.
Here, Florio talks about how Mangini steamrolled former GM George Kokinis.
And here Florio writes of waiting two days to announce the starting quarterback: "The fact that Mangini is even playing this game is the best evidence of his delusion (but for, you know, his suggestion that there are 'remarkable similarities' between the Browns and the Patriots)."
See … it's not just me folks.

Did anyone ever stop to consider that Derek Jeter only had 8 errors because he couldn't get to half of the balls that most good shortstops can?
i don't know drew, i thought that seattle could have won had jeramy stevens caught a few balls.
The escalator clause supposedly refers to snaps. So far, since the offense can't stay on the field, that means that the Browns have taken less than the average number of snaps in their 8 games. That means Quinn can still take 70% of the snaps … if he's not benched again and the Browns win a few games via the offense hanging onto the ball, driving, and scoring.

"I know where I'm headed, but we'll talk about that on Wednesday," Mangini said Monday. "I haven't talked to the quarterbacks about it yet, so that's part of it."
Mike Florio's attack on Mangini for this comment is some kind of blind raging hatred for Mangini. If you know this individual, Pat, please ask him: "What coach announces a roster change without first informing the players involved??"
Also, I didn't see it, I admit, but a commenter on one blog or another said that Mangini's Monday statement made it obvious that Quinn was getting the start — otherwise he wouldn't have had to wait until he spoke to the players to announce who was starting!

I dug out the VHS of the Browns-Bills MNF game from last year. What jumped out were all the comments that 1) Quinn didn't throw the ball downfield, ever; and 2) Jamal Lewis called out the Browns for quitting in a previous game.
So, Quinn did do much better last year than this, but he didn't throw the ball over 20 yards ever. I remembered he was better, but had forgotten that part.
I also forgot how Lewis lashes out. Practice for a vet of his weight and age may especially be a problem that has contributed to his yards per carry … but, then again, they weren't good last year, either. I have no way to judge if Mangini's style of practice through the week is a plus or a minus. At this point, it's all piling on (and I don't mean that in defense of Mangini, only mean to point out that we've reached the point where Mangini isn't as popular with the media as Bush was a couple of years ago … and, please, I'm not making a political comment, but cannot think of anyone more hated by the media than Mangini except possibly for Bush).

It's been my belief that if Mangini went back to Quinn it would take the negative pressure off him and buy him a couple or even a few weeks to win another game or two, that Anderson is the poster boy for how much the Browns stink, that Grossi is right that Anderson's relations with the fans are on par with Couch's at the end for him. And, yes, I know the Quinn haters will point out that Quinn stinks, etc., and everybody who doesn't love Anderson is a **@&$@#*, etc. — but the fans, in general, haven't given up on Quinn, yet, and we have given up on Anderson.
That's the difference — besides looking forward to what Quinn and the Browns might do ….
Keith … I do agree with you on one point here. The coach should talk to his players first on a decision like this one.
I think every coach wants to win. I look at Mangini and I see a guy who wants to win, but doesn't know what he is doing. His plans just dont work. Getting rid of all your talent, Winslow, Edwards, Joe Jurivisious, Sean Jones, Andre Davis. All those guys are starting on their new teams.
You fix bad attitudes by winning. The NFL has shown that with good roster moves and a good coaching attitude you can turn a team around in 1 year. See Falcons, Dolphins, Rams (super bowl Year) Ravens last year, Broncos this year. All teams with quick turnarounds. They have ruined two decent QB's.
Both have gone backwards. The Draft was terrible. We cant run the ball at all and with all those backs on the board we draft a center with the 1st pick. We had a starting center who was pretty good and out played the rookie in training camp.
And to add fuel to the fire he is not honest, nor does he deal with people well. It all spells 1-7 to me. He is the problem get some one in here to fix this please. Its the coach!!!!
