An excellent page for any sane, intelligent-thinking person. Which probably leaves Mr. Lerner out.
However, you left out one immense point: The Draft Disaster.
Mangini, alone, passed up Sanchez to take an "ok" center; then topped that "brilliant" move with the draft of two mediocre-to-below-average receivers.
And now, we're supposed to entrust this pudgy non-talent evaluator with 11 draft choices which could determine the future of our franchise? Uh, NO THANKS! I don't want Mangini ANYWHERE near my draft, my team, or my franchise.
Remember how Joe. J. was unceremoniously dumped? This windbag is beyond feeling. He proceeded to dump our key playmakers (Kellen, Edwards) and others who "didn't buy in" to his deranged "plan"….replacing them with horrendous Jet players and horrendous draft choices.
I guess my question to Mr. Lerner is this: IN THE FACE OF UNLIMITED NEGATIVES, REGARDING YOUR "COACH," PLEASE GIVE THE FANS ONE SINGLE REASON (JUST ONE POSITIVE THOUGHT) AS TO WHY THIS LITTLE BALL-BOY SHOULD CONTINUE TO RUN YOUR TEAM? JUST ONE. You can email it, if you like, Mr. Lerner. Just answer the question.
Ugh this is getting old. You could have typed "blah blah blah" for 15 paragraphs and it would have the same effect.
I hate bye weeks. I know you're doing your job. It's just boring.
Marc, aside from what I wrote in the last post, I think that's another unfair cheapshot I've been reading about more than once. The Lerner e-mail interview. As if a slimeball like Dan Gilbert doesn't do the exact same thing.
Oh, and alan t.'s imposter, if you think it's getting old and you also hate bye weeks, just wait until they expand to 18 games. After the honeymoon is over, how many ways can Mike Holmgren be called a retreaded bald fat hypocritical walrus?
Alan, if Adam Schefter is correct about Holmgren, I'm sure you'll be the one leading the retreaded bald fat hypocritical walrus charge.
I think I would prefer Ron Wolf as President with Holmgren coming in as head coach.
Marc, don't get too worked up about Mangini running next year's draft…whoever is brought in as football czar will likely want to hire his own coach.
I agree, I want Ron Wolf as president….but Jon Gruden as coach. Holmgren hasn't exactly impressed anyone on the field for the last decade.
But one thing is certain, this franchise cannot deviate from accepted NFL norms. Meaning, there must be a hierarchy of President, GM and coach…and those three cannot be the same person. The coach needs to coach and be open and communicative with the media and fans. Same with the GM. This whole secrecy schtick is just such a tiresome turnoff.
espn is reporting that lerner wants holmgren for the big boss man role. that's fine by me. i'd rather have him up top than coaching on the field. if lerner manages to get a strong leader like that up top i have no doubt that mangini will be relegated to the trash can where he belongs.
Brian D., I have a problem with anybody who lowered himself to shill for Rogaine, but doesn't have a thing to show for it except a fatter checking account. Then pretends that he never shilled for it.
Besides, when the same report came around the bend in late September that Dan Snyder was going to be making a play for Mike Holmgren for the exact same purposes, then you know something is seriously wrong here. Snyder is another guy who doesn't have a clue. What has Holmgren ever done as a GM except get himself fired from the position when he didn't pan out? He was a Mangini duplicate, he ran the entire Seahawks operation both on and off the field, and he sucked at it. A lot.
That guy's single experience at the GM job was a failure, and who at the age of 61 has a major fire burning that doesn't just involve the pain and discomfort of angina? Very few. Wrong guy.
alan, it's not a fair comparison to holmgren in seattle to what his role would possibly be in cleveland. the g.m./coach rarely works. he's being offered the parcells role which is neither g.m. or coach. honestly, do think the browns can do better? if so, name some people.
totally unrelated:
my god, look at sammy sosa.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/What-in-the-name-of-Michael-Jackson-is-up-with-S;_ylt=AvfbdchwPCLL_QU85LWuWcM5nYcB?urn=mlb,200803
When I think Mike Holmgren, I think the Peter Principle. Rising to upper management, he's a professional toe-stubber. Parcells is a poor comparison, from everything I've read, Parcells was Mangini before there was a Mangini by being the actual guy who was running the show both on and off the field.
I'm not saying Holmgren would not be an improvement. But so would either of my Siberian Huskies. The black and white one can be head coach, the red and white one can be general manager, and it would be a huge improvement. But just because they'd be an improvement doesn't mean they're the right dogs for the job.
Sosa appears to have some kind of Liberace thing going on there.
Read this and tell me how Holmgren could no longer have an interest in one job based upon some noble principle of his, and yet if he indeed is offered the Browns job, might accept it. How would it not be totally hypocritical? It would be his first day on the job, and already he would have made his first management lie. http://xr.com/wp6
it's only hypocritical if you operate under the premise that mangini, like zorn, is a nice guy who is being unfairly undercut by the owner as opposed to being a supreme douchebag who should be paying taxes on the air he breathes.
Alan never names who he would like to see be hired or drafted. That way he's never wrong.
It's easier to second guess when you never have to first guess.
"Parcells is a poor comparison"
i was referring to parcells' role with the dolphins.
oops, i quoted you! larry/solomon is going to call me an idiot!
Brian D., that's a pretty stupid comment. It's like Lerner's hiring of Mangini. You'd probably say, "Well, he's a good hire since you haven't said who else is qualified." Based upon his past experience in the role, Holmgren is not qualified to be in Browns upper management. From 1999 through 2002, he tripped over his own shoelaces. I don't need to throw out the names of other people, it is completely irrelevant. Capiche?
terje, there's no difference if we're talking about Jim Zorn or George Kokinis. A principle is a principle, it was the same kind of thing. It would be a weasel move for him to accept a job with the Browns if it's offered. Instead, it would be all about control and money. Like I said, a weasel.
Here is his GM timeline: http://xr.com/ze4
Alan, no I don't capiche. You always point out the problems, but never have solutions. You really should have got out of your Mom's basement today, it was a beautiful day out there. Then agin, you would have found something wrong with it.
I was putting insulation in the upstairs walls, Brian, didn't go near the basement. Regardless, why don't you accuse Pat of the exact same thing, pointing out problems but never having solutions? Oh, wait, you do.
But since you inanely insist upon a solution, hey, here's one: adequately fund NASA so they can build a time machine and undo 11 years of all the stupid Browns stuff that's already been done. Happy?
Dandy, Dandy is a very bad owner…Saw Brady n got a boner..but if he hires Cowher, will be the man of the hour, because he's Dandy,Dandy…
alan, i don't see a single reference in that article regarding holmgren's "principles". that's your term not his. he's talking about a specific situation in washington, not cleveland. the two teams may have an idiot owner in common but jim zorn is not eric mangini.

Guess all your imposters made all those posts.
They were interesting topics, Brian D., so I had something to say about them. Springsteen is like abortion, the Browns are like religion. If you're going to bring up the subject at dinner, you're always going to have passionate responses and some food fights. And during the time it took you to actually have the gonads to time-date stamp my comments, I could have cut and hammered several more panels of drywall and squeezed in some R-19 batts. I see you're pretty busy today, too.
another point regarding holmgren's so-called principles….
zorn worked under holmgren for 6 years.
mangini……for none.
not wanting to get involved in washington but possibly being willing to slit mangini's throat makes perfect sense to me.
I still think it's all about control and money, and not necessarily in that order.
Alan, I know you're too busy to time-stamp my posts today, but if you did you would find a 4 1/2 hour gap where I was outside and out of the basement.
Well, I know you have a busy night ahead, so I'll stop terrorizing you.
I think Parcells is a pretty good football man, terje. Why would you be comparing Mangini to him?
You must have changed your mind.
larry/solomon, i have no idea what you're babbling about.
I know you guys have been in Alan's mom's basement all day, but in case you haven't noticed, Parcells hasn't done much as an Executive VP of Football Operations in Miami. They barely won the division last year and got bounced fast, this year they are allowing a TON of points. Oh, let's not forget that they still have no quarterback.
So yeah, by all means, lets get a Parcells copy cat.
And where's Pete McMahonomanomanalman's opinion on Mike Holmgren? Hellllloooooooo???? Takin' the day off?
They barely won the division last year after losing about 15 games the previous year, Imposter. Most folks would say that's not too shabby.
But they still suck this year. Check out their defensive stats. So you're saying you want Holmgren to come in and turn around a 1-15 team to mediocrity? Wow.
Again, why do I have to repeat myself? My mom has no basement, and I don't even know if she's still alive, I haven't talked to her in 11 years. If you are, in point of fact, in my mom's basement, then you know a lot more about my mom that I do.
And who knows what Parcells actually does and doesn't do. Here's a good piece. http://xr.com/wpuc
What exactly is Lerner looking for, anyway? It almost seems like Lerner is looking for the equivalent of a good secretary. Somebody to keep things organized and tidy. Lerner should just hire somebody from California Closets. Problem solved. What can Andy Reid's twin brother possibly beneficially offer the Cleveland Browns, other than being a head football coach?
