Back to my Super Bowl comment a few posts down … give me one good reason why he and his band couldn't do it genuinely. Just one. His entire schtick for decades has been how totally passionate and great he is live, no matter the circumstances. If something goes wrong, then something goes wrong. He rises above everything. So why could the Rolling Stones do it, and he couldn't? Please, just one good reason.
Alan, this is from an ABC News article:
"According to "The Making of the Super Bowl: The Inside Story of the World's Greatest Sporting Event" by former league executive director Don Weiss, the NFL has required performers to have a backup track since 1993, when country crooner Garth Brooks threatened to leave the stadium minutes before he was scheduled to perform unless NBC played his new video. Brooks had previously refused to prerecord the anthem, which meant the league had nothing to play in his place if he left. Ultimately the show's executive producer agreed to play a portion of Brooks' video if the NFL would agree to roll back the kickoff time by three minutes. Weiss did and Brooks' performance went on without a hitch. And the league made a backup recording a requirement."
And this is from Pat's favorite source, Wikipedia…
"Due to the precise timing required to accommodate the high priced advertising surrounding the halftime shows, performers sing live but to pre-recorded backing tracks. The band on stage plays along with the pre-recorded backing tracks. The guitar solos are also performed live rather than being pre-recorded."
And this from a Steven Van Zandt interview:
“I absolutely played live. If you were there, you could hear me ****ing around before we started. Who knows what technical thing happens? We were there all week. Was there back-ups to the system in case something went wrong? Was something recorded? It’s very possible. I was singing live, I was playing live. That’s all I can tell you."
I'm sure you would prefer a return to "Up With People".
I'm sure you will argue this all night, but I have a football game to get to…Ignatius vs. Boardman….Bernie's gonna be in a foul mood come tomorrow.

Brian, according to one of the producers himself, Van Zandt is a bald-faced liar. In light of his head, no pun intended.
