Browns vs. Packers live …

by Pat McManamon on October 25, 2009

in Browns, McManamon, vs. Packers (2009)

First quarter: The Browns are not losing

Horrible first drive, as the Browns squander kickoff out of bounds with offensive pass interference penalty and two lame play calls. … Eric Wright's tackle sends Packers TE Jermichael Finley to the sidelines with a knee injury. … Borderline hit as Wright hit the guy low when he wasn't looking, but then again given the way Wright tackles the fact he got Finley to the ground is significant. … Losing Finley a significant blow to the Packers offense. … Browns stop Packers on fourth down quarterback sneak and get the measurement, unlike a week ago. The Browns even survive a Green Bay challenge. … The Browns just ran a quarterback sneak on second-and-1. … Then they pitched wide to Jamal Lewis before hitting Mohammed Massaquoi for 22 yards, with 15 added for a facemask. … Browns move to 3, but Derek Anderson drops the snap on second down, then throws into triple coverage on third down. That's the end of a quarter for the ages. … Cleveland 0, Green Bay 0.

Second quarter: Green Bay scores three times

Billy Cundiff just hit the upright from 22 yards. … Yes, you read that right. … Backup tight end Spencer Havner just rambled 45 yards down the sideline for a touchdown on third-and-1. What was that about missing Finley? … Quite a play by a guy listed as TE/LB. … It appeared that Havner was the third option on the play. … Browns punt, but Packers have 12 men on field and Browns get first down. … No matter three plays later the Browns punt. Third-and-15 call was inside handoff to Jerome Harrison. … Josh Cribbs has run the from the Wildcat once to this point. … WR Mike Furrey is the Browns nickel back. … And Donald Drive catches a 71-yard touchdown pass — wide open and he runs 60 yards after the catch. … Green Bay's run-after-catch is off the charts. … At the end of the run, Eric Wright had a chance to tackle him, was straight-armed away and then missed a tackle. … Classic Eric Wright tackling effort. … Just like last week, when Pittsburgh said the Browns blitz a safety on early downs and leave areas open. Abram Elam blitzed, and Driver ran right to the area he vacated. … This a professional team? … Packers penalty gives Browns another first down. … No matter. Third play results in interception as Brian Robiskie turns in and Anderson threw out. … The boos have started. … This is bad, real bad. … Anderson's rating to this point: 27.8. … Brandon McDonald pass interference in end zone gives Packers first-and-goal at the 1. … Ryan Grant scores on third down, but it sure looked like he might have fumbled prior to scoring. No replay call from above, which was more than puzzling. … Browns are running two-minute drill and Harrison is getting abused in pass protection. … Evident why he doesn't play more. … Mangini let the half run down to two seconds left and called timeout. … Boos and apathy at halftime. … Green Bay 21, Cleveland 3.

Third quarter: What an embarrassment

What's the point of blogging on this game? … Josh Cribbs just fumbled the ball to Green Bay on a third-down reception. … With 22 seconds, two Green Bay penalties put the Browns at first-and-goal at the 3. … A touchdown cuts the deficit to 14. If they can get a touchdown. … It will have to wait until the fourth quarter. … Green Bay 24, Cleveland 3.

Fourth quarter: Yuk

Browns do not score. … Anyone surprised? … Brady Quinn must be thinking "What in the world do I have to do to get into a game at this point?" … Brett Ratliff too. … Green Bay responds with a 99-yard drive for a touchdown and a 31-3 lead. … Final: Green Bay 31, Cleveland 3.

I was at my son's soccer match and missed the first half. I have an urge to just rake the leaves off of my lawn and ignore the game. I'll rake the leaves. Its a better option than watching the Browns.

Prime example of why Mangini should be fired without hesitation: I'm sitting here, 4th quarter. They're getting beaten. Badly. The clock is at 7:30. They have the ball. So what do they do? They actually RUN a play for Mr. Stutter Step. Not a pass. A RUN. Then they actually go into a HUDDLE. Are you telling me they don't even have a no-huddle offense? None at all? Where's the sense of urgency? Then they throw a pass. Incomplete. Fourth down. So what does Mangini do? They PUNT instead of trying to go for a first down!

Fire this imbecile. NOW.

Pat you are just like the Browns. You quit in the 3rd quarter.

Rich G2 October 25, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Like a rubbernecker at a car wreck, I came in to see what type of comeback as being engineered by the Browns. Tip-toeing running back, a retarded QB, corners that can't cover or tackle, a RT tackle that can't block, linebackers that have noodles for arms, an OC that is lost, a safety that gets burned on every play, other than that I think the Browns are getting better at losing games.
I don't understand why I stay loyal to the Browns. When I was child my favorite team was the Dolphins. I joined the service, met a woman from Northern Ohio, moved here to be close to her. Went to one game in 86' and it was love at first sight. Now years later, I don't even remember what that girl looked like but I remember that first game. Why did I ever go to that game?

pat's third quarter surrender is hilarious.

my god, what new excuses will people come up for mangini this week. chris palmer's expansion team had more heart and passion. mangini worshippers love to say, "anyone who expected the browns to win is an idiot". win? how about TRY? anderson looks like complete garbage. what is the point of playing him? if not quinn throw fat dawg john thompson under center. at least he'll give the crowd it's money's worth when he drunkenly craps his pants on the 20 yard line.

Phil C October 25, 2009 at 4:19 pm

Pat good to see you showed up in the 4th quarter. As for the Browns well…

alan t. October 25, 2009 at 4:43 pm

I would love to read a rebuttal from the homers and the shills in regards to the post I made during the game's fourth quarter, when Louie Anderson was waving the white flag. Please. Just one. Make me laugh.

terje October 25, 2009 at 4:55 pm

i'm sure that rebuttal will include terms such as "discipline" and "process". in my mind those are code words for "oxygen thief".

There seems to be something wrong with the "parity" in the NFL.

I cannot think of anything to refute what alan t. has posted. I'm disgusted witht the current situation with the Browns. Its like a runaway train headed for disaster. I will start making my draft choices for next years draft.

Brian D. October 25, 2009 at 8:06 pm

We would have won this game if we had Braylon's one catch for 14 yards this week.

terje October 25, 2009 at 8:10 pm

hey brian, a guy named david clowney had a pretty good game for the jets today. want to guess which jets receiver commanded the defense's attention? hint: it wasn't david clowney.

Brian D. October 25, 2009 at 8:22 pm

Wow! 4 receptions for 79 yards…let me get Canton on the phone!

terje October 25, 2009 at 8:24 pm

try contrasting that 4 receptions for 79 yards with every other game clowney has played. the guy would have been a ghost without edwards on the field.

alan t. October 25, 2009 at 8:44 pm

Brian D., seriously, do you ever use the good sense God gave you? This Clowney guy had one lousy reception all last season! All season! And ya know the four passes he caught today, at an average of 18 yards per catch? They're the only four he's had all season! Before today? Zippo. And you think Edwards had nothing to do with this? Why do you think the Browns' semi-stiff rookie from the University of Georgia was able to catch some balls before Edwards was given away in exchange for that Rammstein boxset that terje previously pictured in these parts? Because they had about 36 guys covering Edwards! That's right, I said 36. Including the visitors' bench. So the semi-stiff was wide open. A Boston Terrier could have caught a ball with Edwards drawing all the attention. Or at least bounced the ball off his nose, which is what the semi-stiff from the University of Georgia has actually done a few times.

THAT is what a guy like Edwards can do. Just the mere threat is a huge advantage, he doesn't have to catch a thing.

For Christ's sake, they got some new guy at tight end who was working at Jiffy Lube just last week, and he had the second most catches on the team! I forget his name, I just remember it sounds like a venereal disease. This is progress? And the sad thing is, he's probably better than Robert Royal. But not quite as good as Kellen Winslow, do ya think?

alan t. October 25, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Whoops, my mistake … even further proving my point. Clowney also had four catches against Miami for 72 yards, in Edwards' first game. Today Clowney had four catches for 79 yards.

I hope Lerner's new Hungarian spy is able to catch Mangini mocking Lerner's bright white legs, or something. Soon. Louie Anderson has to go.

alan t. October 25, 2009 at 10:15 pm

Doesn't look like Pat's "memo" has been heeded. The man is like Rodney Dangerfield, no respect.

terje October 25, 2009 at 10:33 pm

i have no doubt that the fake alan t. tastes blowouts.

alan t. October 25, 2009 at 10:38 pm

Dude, you really oughta make up your mind. First you're me, and then three minutes later, you posted as Romeo Crennel. Seriously, take a stand. Who are you? If I were you, I'd choose Romeo. He's a lot more cuddly than I am. A big brown teddy bear.

And what's the deal with your "mom's basement" fetish? First, you say I'm in my mom's basement, which is not possible, since my mom's old folks home does not have a basement. Then you say that Pat is typing away in his mom's basement, which I believe is not possible for the same reason. Can't you reference something that is above ground-level?

Brian D. October 26, 2009 at 5:04 am

The reason Clowney had done nothing before the last few weeks is because he wasn't on the field. He's replacing an injured Cotchery.

The fact that they are double or triple covered doesn't seem to prevent great receivers like Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Hines Ward, Randy Moss and Reggie Wayne from being in the top 10 in receptions. Braylon is tied for 66th. The great Kenny Britt of the awful Titans has more receptions than Brickhands Braylon. Of course if Braylon caught everything thrown to him, he would probably be among the leaders also….that's the difference between him and a good receiver.

alan t. October 26, 2009 at 10:52 am

Nothing will ever get through to you. Why bother.

Brian D. October 26, 2009 at 11:41 am

One thing is for sure….the Brown's pick for Braylon will never become a 2nd rounder because there is no way he catches 55 passes with the J-E-T-S. 55 drops…definitely!
