In response to Drew

Drew wrote in a comment: "Pat, since you have been focused on the Browns and Indians the last few days, why not throw the Buckeyes into the mix; you know, to make us feel even better?"
Well OK then …
Here's my question: Do you think Terrelle Pryor regrets choosing Ohio State?
Feel better?

Better question…

Do you think Ohio State regrets choosing Pryor?

alan t. October 21, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Pryor would be a great player with the right coach in the right system. It's a wrong fit. Makes as much sense as the crazy notion of intentionally teaming James with Ilgauskas.

Oh, wait, they already did that.

Marc October 21, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Brian said it all.

Pryor is the most overhyped, overrated, underachiever in recent memory. Worse than Zwick. Not even Krenzel level. What was all the fuss? A top pick? Gimme a break.

Either he doesn't have the talent to progress as a QB, or the coaching staff is not up to snuff in developing him. Either way, he is not now, nor will he ever be, a dominant college QB. And if he has thoughts of the pros, better be learning a new position right now, son.

Thanks Pat, I am honored to make it back after my embarrassing B-12 scandal.

In a word Pat: yes.

In a word Brian: no. Tressel thinks he can win with anyone, but doesn't drastically change his scheme to do it. Oh, he tweaks it, but not enough for a talent like Pryor to make a difference. Tressel's stubbornness, much like John Cooper before him, will be his undoing.

There are so many factors to the OSU situation, none of which are pleasant to talk about.

terje October 21, 2009 at 4:51 pm

it's hard to know who's exactly to blame regarding pryor. rumor has it the guy has the intellect of a rock and tressel has had to simplify the offense below the usual caveman level to accommodate pryor.

Brian D. October 21, 2009 at 7:09 pm

If Pryor wanted to play in a spread offense, he would have gone to Michigan. Tressel convinced him that Ohio State's pro-style offense would better prepare him for the NFL. It was a decision based on future earnings.

That said, a spread offense better suits Pryor and would open up some nice running lanes for him.

alan t. October 21, 2009 at 7:44 pm

Ironic that now a "pro-style offense" is a college offense. The Wildcat. I don't even know what a "pro-style" offense means.

alan t. October 21, 2009 at 8:23 pm

Hey, Rich G., do you think you can type my name as somebody else? Seriously. Use terje's name, or something.

terje October 21, 2009 at 8:37 pm

alan, you get more dudes hot and bothered than the village people.

alan t. October 21, 2009 at 9:01 pm

Oh, come on, terje. You know better than that. Even my stalkers couldn't possibly get more hot from me than the heat coming off of these guys. http://xr.com/00m

pro-style offense? start listing the QB's in the NFL that came from Tressel's offense. funny! Please, Pat, you gave in to Drew; humor me and do something with the two weirdos, Alan and Terje. It's become an embarrassment to this site.

If I'm not mistaken, Troy Smith won the Heisman Trophy just a few years ago and has done as well in the NFL as any qb from a spread offense college program that I can think of. Alex Smith was woefully unprepared. Even the enormously untalented Krenzel got some playing time in his rookie year, so pro coaches must have thouth he had some decent preparation. Pryor seems a lot more talented than Smith, but so far just is just real inconsistent. Maybe he just doesn't have it.

Kirk October 23, 2009 at 8:46 am

Troy Smith is a back up QB. The Heisman Trophy has absolutely nothing to do with Pro potential or pro success, as most of the winners have found out.
